Nag lalakad Na Parol: Walking Lantern

When I was little, one of my dream jobs (there was a lot tbh… I went through phases lol) was to become a fashion designer. Sewing has been a hobby of mine since I was 9 years old. Evolving from poorly hand sewn, up-cycled projects copied from pinterest and youtube to now showcasing an original designed dress at my college’s annual fashion show. So grateful for this opportunity to live out little me’s dream :,)

The dress was originally designed for my Beginning Sculpture final during my first quarter at UC Davis. Fast forward to my very last quarter at Davis, I opened for the Picnic Day FADS fashion show with my redesigned dress. Fun fact, I recreated the dress in >24 hours #whentheresawilltheresaway

The Parol, a traditional Filipinx Christmas lantern, contains a long trace of history dating back to the Spanish Colonial period. It is now often used as a decorative piece symbolizing hope and goodwill during the holiday season. Personifying the parol through creating an enlarged, wearable garment was my intent to bring the well known, decorative piece to life.

Special thank you to my mom for being my glue assistant and my dad for building the handheld parol lantern base :,) + thank u to my mama n lolo for opening up their home for me to work on this project + thank u to kristen for doing my nails for the show ^-^ @klawedbykristena

n thank u to my friends n fam who came to support me at the show luv u guys <3
