Third from the Flavours for the Future recipe series, and this is the plate guests kept going back to.

Twenty minutes in an air fryer turns a tin of butter beans from soft and polite into something you simply can’t get enough of. Smoked paprika, cumin, whipped feta underneath, chilli honey over the top.

This recipe is a guaranteed fan favourite!

Save this recipe and let us know if you loved it as much as our guests did!

Still working through the Flavours for the Future recipe series, and this is the easiest of the lot to cook for a delicious weekday meal!

Two tins of beans, one pot of smoky tomato, and 400 g of meat stretched across the whole table rather than portioned out per person. Serve it on rice, in tortillas, or in lettuce cups.

Which weeknight pot of yours could take two tins of beans this week? Save this recipe and let us know how it goes!

Flavours for the Future recipe series, number one.

Three cups of black beans and 100 g of rump per person. The meat is still on the plate, it just stopped being the point of it. Built poke style so everyone assembles their own bowl.

Best enjoyed with @santa_annas organic corn tortilla chips!

Which of your usual braai sides could carry the bowl instead of sitting next to it?

Today I spent a few hours catching up with the one and only Annette Kesler… what a treat! She’s impeccable in every way at 90 years of age! We reminisced, gossiped (obvs) and she made me laugh out loud a hundred times, her acerbic wit remains in tact! What an inspiration… she is what 90 can look like if you stay busy, keep interested and do what you love. Big respect and much love for this South African doyenne of food … @showcookcom @annettekesler by @justinedrakecooks

That’s a wrap on our Flavours of the Future event we held in collaboration with @justinedrakecooks!

An incredibly successful evening of making beans the star of every meal, discussing the value our plates can play in reducing global emissions and a fantastic way to make the pivot fee relatable and most importantly delicious!

They have loooooads of gourmet goodies on offer, so if you’re into the gourmet side of this, check out their website and go shopping! by @justinedrakecooks

We’re incredibly excited to announce that we are hosting our first event in partnership with Justine Drake!

Flavours for the Future is an evening of pivoted flavour with MasterChef South Africa judge Justine Drake and our co-founder, Terry Owen-Jones Dower. We are going to be showcasing a Protein Pivot cooking demonstration, which will include three recipes, cooked live, each one a working example of what happens to a plate when you change the proportions instead of taking something off it.

What the evening includes:

· A cooking demonstration by MasterChef South Africa Judge Justine Drake!
· Three recipes built on the four Protein Pivot principles!
· A proper look at how to cook and season beans so they become the champion of the dish rather than an afterthought on the side of it!
· A goodie bag valued at up to R800!
· A live Q&A with Justine and Terry, so bring a recipe of your own you would like pivoted.
· Food and drink throughout!

Where: Constantia, Cape Town
When: Wednesday 30 September 2026
Time: 18:30 to 21:00
Tickets: R850, only 20 seats, so get your ticket soon!

Tickets are live now through the link in our bio.

Which dish in your own repertoire would you hand over to be pivoted first?
