God Save our Builders!

Here is the final resting place of Titanic’s End, condemned forever to this watery grave. Those fools who took on too many builds, who alchemically transmuted their own blood and sweat into sunrise magic. Those Prometheuses who challenged the Gods for supremacy of the Earth, who dared to dream that Technology could triumph over the Natural powers.

Just as Icarus flew too close to the fiery sun and plummeted to the sea on broken wings of melted wax, this rebel crew choked on a dusty bite far too large for any man or beast to dry swallow.

Let this monument serve as a lesson to future would-be build crews: Temper your dreams lest you end up sinking in the same quagmire.

Or DON’T, and live on as a legend forever.

This year @titanicsend brought TITANIC to Burning Man, a ship art piece broken in halves and sinking into the desert, forming an amphitheater space for exploration and play. I’ve always wanted to build a placed art, and finally got the opportunity to do it.

I was so proud of our crew. Over 200 people spent over 9000 hours to bring this gift to playa, across 53 build days and then 2 weeks on site. TITANIC represented a tremendous amount of work, and then at the end of the week we burned it. A reminder for us all that life is a fleeting dream. Every moment, no matter how beautiful, comes to an end.

This was one of my favorite missions I’ve ever undertaken. I am so grateful to everyone who helped make this happen, and to everyone who came out to see it. by @justinkan
