I started this league 3 years ago at 16. I didn’t have the resources to give back that first year, but I told myself once we grew, giving back to the community would become part of what we do every season in my league.

This year, “BYHL Mental Health Week” raised $218.32 for the Canadian Mental Health Association in just a few days. I thought this would be a great charity to support because mental health affects everyone at any age and anytime.

I’m incredibly grateful for my families and players who make this league what it is, and for a great group of staff helping me run it every week. Three years in, and I’m still building and trying to grow so more players can experience the BYHL over the summers, and so we can continue to give back to our amazing community 😊

Think about how you can turn a side hustle into recurring revenue too, as that’s a game changer. For example, with window washing, put clients on a monthly membership so it’s not just a one-and-done service. by @justinnblanchet

The last couple of years have been a pretty special journey.

The Barrie Youth Hockey League started as just an idea in Grade 11 marketing class… and in our first season, that idea turned into 1 division, 4 teams, and 51 players. In 2025, the second season, it grew into 3 divisions, 14 teams, and 192 players. Watching it turn into something families, players, and the community genuinely care about and love, has been incredibly rewarding to see!

I’m proud to be the founder and owner of the BYHL, but even more proud of the people behind it… the players, coaches, parents, staff, sponsors, and everyone who believed in it early. Beyond hockey, being able to give back to our community matters just as much to us. Over the past season, our BYHL family fed 225 people in need through our “BYHL Food Drive Week”.

This is only the beginning, and I’m excited for what’s next.

Very thankful for the journey so far ❤️ by @justinnblanchet
