SHARKS. TOXIC JELLYFISH. PURE EXHAUSTION.
All risks that came with swimming from LaĢ„naŹ»i to Maui — officially known as the Maui Channel Swim — which I completed on 10/10/2025, officially becoming the 338th person to ever cross it unassisted. One of the most challenging and rewarding experiences I’ve ever taken on. No risk, no story.

At one point, a few 4–5 ft gray reef sharks got curious and came right up to check me out — and I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t pretty scary. Out there, you’re completely exposed to whatever the ocean decides to send your way.

One lesson I took away from this swim — especially with how short my preparation was — is that so much of it is mental. I didn’t know what I was going to run into out there. The ocean is an unfamiliar and unpredictable place, and I knew there was a real chance I’d get stung by a Portuguese man o’ war. So I trained as if I would get stung.

That mindset — preparing for discomfort instead of hoping to avoid it — made all the difference once I was actually in the water. I was expecting it, waiting for it, and honestly even hoping for it — maybe for the excitement, maybe for the story, or maybe just because I’m a little crazy.

And I’m incredibly grateful that my career in door-to-door. Selling pest control gives me the time, freedom, and income to pursue experiences like this. It wasn’t cheap time wise or price wise to have a boat following me for 7 hours across the channel — but the memories, lessons, and sense of accomplishment made every bit of it worth it.

Door-to-door has opened doors in real estate, travel, and fitness that have changed my life — and I don’t take that for granted for a second. #mauichannel #mauichannelswim @hnyplus @honeystinger #channelswimming #channelswimmer taken in Maui, Hawaii by @justjayberg

When I started door-to-door sales, I had no idea what a Golden Door Award even was. At my first company, we heard legendary stories of reps at other companies selling tens of thousands of dollars daily. Most people dismissed the Golden Door entirely—it seemed so unattainable that they didn’t even entertain the goal.

But I was different. Within a few weeks, I was in the top three out of more than 100 reps. It felt incredible to excel at something. That success sparked an obsession in me: I wanted to win a Golden Door. I didn’t talk about it, but I was determined to learn from top-tier salespeople. Everyone knows Golden Door winners are the best in the world. If I could absorb even a fraction of their knowledge, I believed I could unlock my potential.

During my second year, I finished with $315,000 in sales—less than half of what I needed. I thought I was working hard—70 hours a week—but I realized doubling my sales wasn’t about working more hours. It wasn’t a magical one-liner or a perfect smile, either. Over time, I learned Golden Door winners excel because they improve at every single aspect of their work.

I had to change my environment and work at a company that incentivized Golden Door-level sales. I had to redefine ā€œ70 hours per weekā€ as intentional time knocking and talking to decision-makers—not just logged hours. Lastly, I had to shift my focus to selling higher-value packages. These weren’t minor tweaks; they completely overhauled how I worked.

It wasn’t easy. It was years of trial and error, of taking my lumps, and of getting my face kicked to the curb. But through all that, I kept improving. I became more efficient, more effective, and more thoughtful in my sales approach. Eventually, all those changes—the entire ā€œkit and caboodleā€ā€”led me here, to this stage, holding this award.

This moment is a pinnacle, a career-defining achievement. And yet, this summer wasn’t about the money. It was about standing here, about earning this recognition.

Now, I’m ready for the next challenge: not just building a big team at Aptive, but leading an entire region. This is just the beginning. taken in D2Dcon by @justjayberg

For those who don’t know, an Ironman is a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride, and a full 26.2-mile marathon—all in one day with little to no resting in-between. And I bet you didn’t know that during the event, headphones are banned. NO MUSIC: technical officials on motorcycles and bicycles actively looking to disqualify anyone using headphones. This race is meant to hurt- just you with your own thoughts and the sounds around you for over 12 hours.

For me, completing a full-distance Ironman was an overwhelmingly painful and emotional experience. Training consisted of about 10 20+hour weeks- that doesn’t even include the recovery, and drives between training. I’d push through the most painful parts of my hardest workouts imagining crossing the finish line—and that’s exactly what I did on race day.

So here’s how it went:

The swim was chaos—800 swimmers in the water at once, shoulder to shoulder. I started off nearly shaking with nerves, but somehow finished the swim faster than I ever had before, clocking in at 1:19. Getting out of the water faster than any training swim I’d ever completed felt legendary.

On the bike, my excitement carried me through the first 35 miles, but then the rain and wind hit. During the first few miles, I Lost all the items in my belt bag, meaning I had to rely entirely on race-provided nutrition. Pushing up the final hill with the wind trying to shove me backward at mile 105 was brutal. I had a panic attack around mile 85 at the thought of the marathon ahead. Time: 6:27

The run was survival mode. By mile 12, I was nearly in tears, but seeing my girlfriend lifted me. I dry-heaved through most of the run and threw up at mile 23—without ever stopping. Somehow, it felt like a reset button, and I kept going.
Time: 4:27

The final moments of the race were filled with exhaustion and reflection. Crossing the finish line, I honestly kept thinking about the hundreds of hours and extremely difficult weeks leading up to the race. All my training flashed before my eyes, and I knew it was over. I felt like crying but was too exhausted to. It was this singular moment that I had worked 300 hours for—but in the end, I felt quiet, proud, and humbled. taken in Taupo, New Zealand by @justjayberg
