As September comes to an end, I wanted to close out Suicide Prevention & Awareness Month by sharing a conversation that is especially close to my heart.

My conversation with Jason Lacayo touched on mental health, therapy, suicide prevention, taking care of ourselves mentally and physically, and the importance of being honest about the things we carry.

I also wanted to dedicate this conversation to my cousin Khalid. His life, his story, and his memory are a reminder to me that these conversations matter — not just during September, but every day.

I haven’t dropped an episode since August, but I couldn’t think of a more meaningful conversation to return with. As we step into a new month, I hope this episode reminds you to check on your people, give yourself permission to ask for help, and take your mental health as seriously as your physical health. Keep checking in. Keep talking. Keep choosing yourself. Your life is worth the conversation. 🤎

Some conversations stay with you longer after the cameras stop rolling. This is one of them.

5 years ago today, I dropped my first episode of Just Jay! I was just a 21 year old girl who knew she had some thangs to get off her chest and wanted to use her voice and her talent to create something dope off of her experience. What started as my therapy sessions with myself turned into episodes my homegirls and my family really started enjoying and would wait for every week. I’ll never forget when my grandpa started listening to the show and he was INVESTED 🥹

Here are some pictures and clips from my lil Just Jay celebration I had the other day. Only surrounded by love and those who see the vision.

I remember when I interviewed @msteetalk, and honey I was hyperventilating because I just think she’s cool as hell. Now she’s my real life friend. On that episode we talked about her first 10 years in media and I always said ‘when Just Jay turns 10, it’ll be way bigger than just this home studio.’ Well, I’m halfway there and this sh*t has been a movie. So please let’s keep going. Keep growing, keep expressing ourselves.

Thankful for the 21 year old version of me who took a leap on faith and did something new. Because now at 26, we’ve built something that is way too powerful to stop now. Thank you @polymafnetwork for believing in ya girl and giving me the support I needed to be even better. Thank you to my day 1 listeners that I owe so much to! Thank you to who believe in me, that’s a very smart investment 😉🧡

Sooooo how are ya’ll liking episode 96?! I have to say being back active has felt so good.
