🛫38 days, 912 hours, on the sea and LIFE CHANGING, this is SSEAYP 🛳️

It all began when I took a break from studying for my law school finals. Feeling exhausted and restless, I yearned for a change of pace and a chance to explore beyond my books.

That’s when a video about “Free Travel” caught my attention. I’ve always dreamed of exploring the world, but I’ve been afraid to break the status quo. Still, I asked myself, “Am I really going to let fear hold me back and live with regret?”

Little did I know, submitting an essay would change everything and after rigorous selection process, I am beyond grateful that I was one of the 15 selected youth in Malaysia for the SSEAYP.

Together with 168 friends from ASEAN countries, Timor Leste and Japan, we formed a vibrant tapestry of cultures, languages, and backgrounds. Each of us was like a star in the galaxy, destined to meet and shine together.

Engaging in discussion group sessions, voluntary activities, national day presentations, peer learning seminars as well as country programs in Vietnam, Indonesia, and Japan enriched my experience. It broadened my perspective and inspired me to explore beyond my wildest dreams.

No internet connection, rough seas, and packed schedules couldn’t dampen our spirits. Over 38 days, 912 hours, and countless memories, we laughed, cried, cheered, grew and created lifelong memories.

To everyone and anyone who’s in (or not in) these pictures, I just want to say THANK YOU and it’s been a BLESSING to meet you and let’s keep in touch!

Baba (men) and Nyonya (women) are part of Malaysia’s Peranakan Chinese community 🇲🇾 Descended from early Chinese settlers, they developed a unique heritage blending Chinese traditions with Malay and other local cultural influences.
