Today I'm showcasing one of my favourite black performer. The amazing @justkatlo - She is from Botswana and is making her professional debut in musical theatre as "Inez Stubbs" in @hairsprayuktour a show that has truly touched black people worldwide. Hearing about what's she's been through and the reality of being a black actress is something everyone needs to hear. Here's her story and what she explained:

"As a Black, African performer working in Europe and America is tough. I always have to consider visas and whether I can even perform in other counties without one like my colleagues can. Most of the time the answer is “no”. Some jobs that I have been more than qualified for and actually been penciled or even selected for, I have had to give up because the employer didn’t give me enough time to complete and submit a visa application. The story goes: you did your final two months ago (plenty of time to do an application). You wait- running out of time. The week of the shoot comes and you assume you didn’t get it. The call comes in on Tuesday, shoot is Friday, you fly on Thursday. Well… there goes that job 🤷🏽‍♀️. But you got the job, they wanted you, they asked for you... These quiet wins and losses aren’t seen, and often times it feels like some kind of personal failure for being foreign but it isn’t. There also aren’t that many roles out there for us- I’m not talking about playing a maid, a funny friend, a “soul sister”, or some kind of struggle story (which seems to be the only way the industry thinks Black folks can be gritty and dramatic actors). Specifically in musical theatre it feels like for every 6 auditions my white colleagues gets in the room for, I’m seen for 1 or 2 if that… and I definitely need to be able to belt and riff and sing with “soul” at least 90% of the time."

What an absolute honour to share this on this platform! She is paving the way for a new generation of black performers. Please follow her @justkatlo and show her some support she deserves the best. 💕🇧🇼

Hi lovely people,
I am raising £6000 for the Global Talent Visa (GTV)… hopefully for the last time (link in bio). I have lived, studied and worked in the UK for almost decade now and am still ineligible to get indefinite leave to remain. With the Global Talent Visa I would be able to get FIVE YEARS to live here with nothing but the regular stresses of life and not the fear of where to go if I can’t stay. After that, INDEFINITE LEAVE! 🎉I hope the wonderful community I have built here, and all the people you know and all the people they know can get me to this goal. There’s no donation too small and no share that goes in vain. Let’s get this around. LINK IN BIO
I appreciate you all 🩵🩵🩵
