I had the opportunity to discuss destructive wiper malware with Colonel Mietta Groeneveld @miettag , Director of the @nato Command & Control Centre of Excellence, and Jeroen Gaiser, Deputy CISO at the Dutch Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management.

Ukraine has shown how wipers can disable systems, destroy data and disrupt essential services, with consequences extending far beyond military targets to civilians and critical infrastructure.

But this is not only a wartime threat. Any hospital, public service or organization that depends on digital systems could face destructive malware. Resilience therefore requires preparation before an incident: protected backups, tested recovery plans and the ability to keep critical services running.

Cybersecurity is ultimately about more than protecting data, it is about protecting people.

Who’s actually defending Europe’s data? us, or the algorithms? 🇪🇺⚡

My @cybersec_netherlands started with @bartgroothuis , member of European Parliament, dropping a hard truth: agentic AI is now hunting vulnerabilities on its own, and the line between offense and defense is dissolving fast. Europe’s digital sovereignty isn’t a policy slide anymore …it’s a live fight.

This one hit close. I’ve spent years frustrated watching the gap between “we should” and “we did” on this exact issue. So when Bart closed with a real call to action: get in the room, help shape this. I felt that.

Told him about my blockchain + data sovereignty research and the Governed AI work I’m building with @hinda.co_ . His response: keep going.

Sovereignty isn’t given. It’s built. 🔥

Some milestones don’t come with a trophy. They come with the realization that your work has helped shape what comes next.

A few months ago, I answered a call to support a European initiative on AI and cybersecurity. Today, seeing the EU Grand Challenge for AI-powered Cybersecurity become part of the European Commission’s Action Plan is both humbling and incredibly motivating.

Real change doesn’t happen in boardrooms alone. It happens when researchers, policymakers, industry, and practitioners choose to build something bigger than themselves.

Proud to have contributed. Grateful for everyone who made this possible.

Now comes the hard part: turning strategy into reality.

The work has only just begun.

This week was all about AI.

Together with a group of experts in cybersecurity and governance, I had the opportunity to explore the impact, opportunities, and emerging threats that AI brings to modern infrastructures. We discussed everything from resilience and defence strategies to the risks of overreliance on autonomous systems.

The first session was held at Amsterdam Archives while the second one was held at the @botanicsanctuaryantwerp which has been a true delight!

My biggest takeaway? The real value of AI lies in the human in the loop.

AI can process data at unprecedented speed, identify patterns, and support decision-making, but without human judgment, ethics, context, and accountability, it can quickly shift from being an asset to becoming a potential threat.

Technology is powerful. Human intelligence remains essential.

Ex data, intelligentia; ex intelligentia, prudentia.

So much fun at the modular jamming session hosted by @cheb.runner and @a_wake.world @_________shirin at @moezeumcafe ✨

Connecting with other artists in such an open, fluid space felt special. The blend of modular synths, human voice, and live drums & percussion created something raw, powerful, and completely in the moment.
