In 2023, I was suppose to do this song on the finals of the live show on The Voice Nigeria S4 -
but I didn’t make it to the last stage
of the final beat

I had submitted five songs for the Live shows, and they were approved by my coach, WAJE..
Never walk alone, My way, Caruso, what a wonderful world and One Love by bob Marley…

I had to balance the stats with What a wonderful and One love.. I was known as “The Opera Guy” but in order to reach the vast majority…I had to balance my identity as a classical singer with songs that could connect with the wider Nigerian audience,
as advised by my MD Wilson Okafor..

Eventually, I got to perfom: Never walk alone, My Way and What a Wonderful World.. but got evicted at the final Live show,before I could sing the other two.

I look back now and I smile at what I have achieved in all this past 3yrs. It can only be God.
I had to recreate that feeling again from the instrumental of Innocent Masuku’s blind
audition at AGT. 😀

To any classical musician competing out there for the global stages - These song lists are solid and this is a sign that you can make it and keep our names at the top of the charts without losing who we are.

I’ve not reached my peak yet,
And I don’t think I’ll ever get there..
But Imma enjoy absolutely
every ride along the way!

JAW & TONGUE TECHNIQUE

Once I understood this, my singing really changed.

High notes didn’t improve because I pushed more.
They improved because my tongue finally went low.

You can’t cheat the process, to ascend your top registers you MUST first train the low registers by proper jaw placement.

Most singers, just jump into singing “high notes” with less attention to the lower registers.
And even many vocal teachers, don’t give enough consideration to the role of the tongue during singing. However, the position and shape of the tongue are critical elements of good vocal health and optimal acoustical resonance - the results being governed by the extent to which the tongue controls events of the resonator tube (the vocal tract),
and by the tongue’s effect on Laryngeal efficiency.

Incorrect positions of the tongue are a leading cause of numerous technical and vocal health problems, including undesirable (dull, muddy, harsh, or tinny) timbres, distorted vowels,
unclear diction, and a depressed larynx leading
to discomfort in the throat and an inability
to access the head register.

For optimal results, the tip of the tongue should rest behind the lower front teeth during singing.
The tip of the tongue should move from this ideal position only briefly in order to form certain
consonants.

This is a very powerful technique of tongue relaxation, especially for voices that
can’t find their depth.

Fixed those low notes when you sing.
That’s when high notes become stable
and freer.

WRAPING IT UP: Day 29/30 Vocal series

PERFORMANCE CONFIDENCE

Many singers think confidence means “not being nervous.” That’s not true. Even trained singers feel pressure before performances. The difference is that they learn how to manage the MIND without losing vocal control.

True performance confidence is not
arrogance or pretending to be fearless.
It is the ability to remain:

• mentally focused
• physically coordinated
• and vocally free under pressure.

AND confidence grows through:

• preparation
• repetition
• technical consistency
• and trust in the work you have trained into the body.

A calm mind allows the voice to function more naturally. Because the voice does not only respond to technique… it also responds to your MENTAL STATE.

Control the mind.
Free the voice.

EMOTIONAL CONNECTION

in singing is not merely the expression of emotion, but the ability of the voice to communicate psychological and emotional intention in a believable and artistically coordinated manner.

In vocal performance, audiences rarely connect only to sound, they connect to human sincerity carried through sound. This is why two singers may perform the same song with equal technical accuracy, yet evoke completely different emotional responses.

The difference often lies in:

• interpretative awareness
• emotional authenticity
• phrasing intention
• dynamic sensitivity
• and vocal nuance

A technically developed voice without emotional engagement may sound correct, yet emotionally distant. Conversely, emotional expression without technical control often becomes exaggerated, unstable, or vocally inefficient.

This requires the singer to understand not only the notes, but also:

• the text
• the emotional context
• the dramatic intention
• and the psychological weight behind the words

Emotion in singing should not be forced theatrically which most amateur singers often do, but organically transmitted through:

• tonal color
• dynamic variation
• diction
• phrasing
• and intentional vocal delivery

A connected voice is not simply heard.
It is experienced. Save this video.
