🚏🚍 #BoardmemberThursdays#ELECTEDOFFICIALFLOW#DayOneVSAYearNOW“I am honored to have been elected to the Champaign Unit 4 School Board and grateful to everyone who supported this journey-particularly all the families I have engaged with through education or advocacy.Annnnd especially the voters who believed in my vision.I also want to acknowledge my fellow candidates for their unwavering commitment to our schools.This was a close election, all of the candidates put a lot of time, effort, and dedication into this election.I am excited about the opportunity to listen, learn, and collaborate with our community to ensure that every student has the chance to thrive.”In a years time as an elected official I have learned:1️⃣ The community comes first always. ☮️2️⃣ Public comment is a great way to express concerns to the board. Unless you’re a small anonymous 🎪 group on Facebook 🤡 3️⃣ Board comment must be informative and sometimes funny. 📰 🎭4️⃣ Policy is knowledge! 🧠 5️⃣ Regardless of differences as a board we’ve created a formula that works for us. 🫱🏾‍🫲🏼6️⃣ The position as an elected official is FREE yet many think it’s a PAID position. #Brokey 7️⃣ Always remain truthful to yourself even when not in the majority. 💯 8️⃣ Family is everything. 🤎9️⃣ I have been able to learn through governance. ⚖️🔟 Statewide in these elected official board seats the people know JUSTIN MICHAEL HENDRIX and I appreciate it. ⚓️Honorable Mention: When BS goes down I’m sure to become a meme! 😂 by @justodabiggesttt

I had a purpose to better myself and be of a greater use in my community.Historically, as a child of the consent decree opportunities and exposure to this institution were rare to none for the University Street Divide is/was REAL between the community and Campustown.The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign’s College of Education experience was one of racial isolation and tokenism — as the only Black student, only male student, and only Black male student in a cohort of predominantly white females students with five Latin female students. There were days I would have the pressure to represent due to hyper visibility, stereotypes, and micro aggressions challenging my cohort and instructors to have an erasure of power, privilege, and position. Yet while steadfast on this journey I had faced many losses in relationships, financial hardships, belief systems, self esteem and more.🚩Eviction Notices (still paying on back rent)🚩Food Insecurity (able to secure a 💳)🚩Sleepless Nights (learning to sleep more)🚩Elections (District 3; School Board) 🚩Facing Depression (seeking new outlets)🚩Physical Health (herniated disc; sciatica)All temporary test to tackle that have taught me lasting lessons for my livelihood. @winwithblkmen Win With Black Men is a movement dedicated to politically empowering and uplifting Black men. Win With Black Men aims to create a community of support to increase the involvement of black men in the political process. Win With Black Men seeks to dismantle the stigmas and misinformation surrounding black men, our vote, fatherhood, family and their futures. ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿#TheWeekend was a time of civic engagement and policy awareness as I was invited to join a group of #BlackMen with a dedication to ensure a success this election season and on-ward.CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - another opportunity to communicate with unions, stakeholders, policy makers and even our beloved Senator Dick Durbin who had a few jokes about a time in Champaign, Illinois at an event we attended and loved the #WinWithBlackMen sweater❗️🛣️ MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN - linked up with other brothers from the org + sisters from Win With Black Women committed to a successful turnout in battleground states for @kamalaharris @vp Vice President Kamala Harris Governor @timwalz Tim Walz. #HarrisWalz2024 #WinWithBlackWomen HUGE SHOUTOUT TO @rolandsmartin @blackstarnetwork #Support Thankful for the brotherhood and fellowship as I look forward to more impact.
