WHO REMEMBERS?

On September 26, 2004, Hurricane Jeanne struck near Stuart as a Category 3 storm with 120 mph winds.

THE DAMAGE

Indian River County reported 41,000 residences with minor damage and 8,300 with major damage or destruction. Updated U.S. damage reached $7.66 billion.

THE RECOVERY

HUD staff helped Florida families apply for federal relief, obtain roof tarps, and locate temporary housing after four hurricanes tested communities statewide.

THE LESSON

Jeanne followed Frances into nearly the same stretch of coast. Photograph every room, review your policy, protect damaged openings, save receipts, and clearly document repairs before any permanent work begins.
