Houdini vellum and ripple solver simulation is ✨️✨️✨️

Over the past few days, I've been practicing my "waterbending" skills in Houdini, this time not with fluid simulation but using only vellum and ripple solver.

Very satisfied with the final result and always looking to improve 1% everyday 🫡

I'm considering to put this on a larger scene and have a few ideas of what could fit, but I'm also open for feedback and suggestions so feel free to drop some notes in the comments 🙌🏾

Made in houdini, rendered with redshift and post in Davinci Resolve.

This artwork was fully done in Houdini using Karma for rendering. Some additional colour grading done in Davinci Resolve. The latter was a fairly quick process which I am excited to spend more time on but really pushed me to rethink how I approached coloring in past projects.

I've been spending some time to improve my skills further, incorporated a layered approach to the sim with multiple parameter iterations of the popfluid, curveforce, force, drag and solver nodes. Also had to become more familiar with tuning the karma material builder settings to achieve a more realistic blood-like shader and tried to get out of my confort zone. Pretty happy with the output and yet also think it can get even more defined in the future. Nevertheless, I'm very pleased to have reached this stage in just a couple of days.

Made this sci-fi cinematic thriller short using Houdini FX

As Technologist and creative, I can't shake the fact that a lot of technology has been adapted from some of the great sci-fi movies.

I've had this vision in my head of creating a minimalistic scene showing a futuristic Data Center using blood as energy source for their models.

While this scene is just a prototype of something that could be much bigger, I'm happy to bring able to come up with a project that has a full intention, from idealization, design, FX and storytelling.

How you like it, follow and share as it will mean a lot to me and my grow as a FX generalist.

Of course for this there's no better soundtrack than @nineinchnails 🤟🏾

AI Data Centers when the water run scarce.

The past weeks I've been imagining this dystopian sci-fi scene where Data Centers are using 🩸🅰️🅾️🅱️ to serve as an energy source for their models.

It was real fun coming up with this idea, assembling some of my past work as a project with an intention.

Keep building and sharing art, no matter what tries to stop us from resonating our true essence. I'm doing this for the love and passion that I've kept buried for many years. I was always a big enthusiast of 3D and VFX, but life had other plans. Still built a career in Tech and right now I just love sharing the things I create in Houdini...

I understand that to work on a creative studio is a long shot, so I just enjoy the process of discovering techniques and testing around different attributes to make some cool simulations. In this case I've created this sphere with vellum and using ripple solver. It's quite similar to my previous reels, but this time I've decided to use different settings on the materials and the force + vellum attribues.

I call it "Dream Bubble" because I saw this in my mind while I was trying to sleep with some fancy eyemask my wife gifted me 😆

It would mean the world to me if you like and follow to keep up to date with my growth and journey in 3D and VFX.

Playing around with VDB Morph in Houdini is always so much fun.

Keeping my progress 1% everyday, starting small and taking some extra time to practice larger simulations.

Found this tutorial from @nickmedukha and had to give it a try!

This is proof that "Fields of Gold" guitar solo is timeless, made this animation in @sidefxhoudini while trying out RBD attribute transfer technique. I'm such a sicker for the twilight color ramp, it's definitely my favourite 😍

Fire and smoke simulation in houdini.

Spent the day trying something new in Houdini, still early steps but considering the level of autonomy it allows and that I've managed to do this in short amount of time, gets me pretty excited to level up some vfx and cgi skills.

Pushing my fluid sims a bit further with this one. Fully built in Houdini and rendered using Karma, with a quick grading pass in DaVinci Resolve.

For this iteration, I really focused on layering the simulation—stacking the solver, popfluid, curveforce, and drag nodes to get a much more dynamic flow. I also spent some time tweaking the Karma material builder to nail that realistic, heavy blood shader.

Exploring grading in Resolve has completely changed how I think about color workflow. Still plenty of room to refine, but I love seeing the progress from just a few days of experimentation. 🚀

Max just finished his bath, but he didn't get the memo about "relaxing." The second the guitar starts shredding, the carpet becomes a circle pit! 🎸🐕 He’s got the moves, he’s got the speed, and he’s definitely got the post-shower adrenaline. Who knew a Toy Poodle could mosh this hard?
