At last, to the Alpha Chi Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated

This is a dream turned into reality. This may be the end of my time with the chapter, but it is only the beginning of my journey in the organization. Thank you to the 22 who saw a vision that no one could deny. I have admired the women of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated from afar and now I can call myself one too. I step into this next chapter with the utmost gratitude and appreciation.

To my pros: Thank you for guiding me along the way. I couldn’t have done it without y’all! You all showed unwavering dedication and support to help each of us cross the sands and that means more to me than you will ever know. I thank you especially for my club; she is exactly whose steps I want to follow in. For my spec, thank you for choosing me, pushing me to be better, and showing me endless support.

To my line sisters: Having the privilege to call each of you my sister is a blessing within itself. I have enjoyed every moment and this is just the start of our bond! There’s so much more for us to do and I can’t wait to see how far we go. I wouldn’t trade the laughter, the tears, the long talks, and experiences for anything else. I love you all dearly and nothing would ever change that, not even the new long distance between us.

While I would have enjoyed having more time with the chapter, this is a testimony of God’s timing. It was never a question of how, only when.

To the world of Public Policy:

This is the career path that I have been waiting to take part on. Since my Legislative Internship at the Tennessee General Assembly during my junior year of college, it was confirmed that this was for me. I’ve always had the desire to serve my community and now I can by advocating for more. With long days and longer nights in mind, I pray that God will continue to guide me in this next chapter. I pray I can use the gifts he gave me to help those around me. Most of all, I praise God for allowing me to leave Tennessee State University with all that I have:

Think. Work. Serve. Less like a motto, more like a lifestyle. Four years ago I moved in, highly unaware of the journey I was starting. It was a new environment and for my first time ever- I didn’t automatically find my place. It took some time, patience and dedication to remaining true to who I am. Tennessee State University, who would I be without you today? If I could do this all again - nothing would be changed.

To the Political Science Department, it was everything I didn’t know I needed. From the Dean, the Professors, and my Peers- my love and appreciation runs deep for you all. Without our shared moments, I’m not sure where my career aspirations would be nor who I would be. There was never a question about whether or not I would succeed. With the department in my corner, anything I could seek out was in arms reach. I have cherished getting to know every individual who I’ve met along the way. I will never forget the awkward introductions, inside jokes, shared laughter, angst of studying for Barwick’s exams, and late hours spent with one another. We’ve all grown beside each other and I truly cannot wait to see what each of us do.

Everything else TSU has brought me from organizations, campus ambassador role, internships, scholarship opportunities, and my close friends. No words can describe how I feel. To say you all will be missed is an understatement. For some, we have seen each other at our highest and our lowest. Nothing can change the bonds we have grown and the core memories we have made together.

A Story Written & Directed by God: Philippians 4:13

Without the Lord, none of this would be possible. As I reflect on my time at Tennessee State University, I can say with certainty that God had my back. I entered with the faith that He would watch over me, protect me, and lead me towards the best path - and he’s done exactly that. Walking in his vision and having a servant mindset has brought many opportunities that otherwise would not be in my life. I thank God for all that He has done.

To my angels above, you are not forgotten. Time does not go by without me thinking of you each watching me from above. I hope my journey has made you proud and not a day goes by that I don’t think of the support and protection you all have provided me.

Cheers to the next fruitful chapter! 🥂
