Throwing it back to International Coastal Cleanup Day at the Rae Town Fishing Village, where the NSWMA joined forces with the Jamaica Union of Tertiary Students (JUTS), UWI Mona Guild of Students, the Inter-Campus Guild Council, Rotaract Club of UWI, Mona, UWI STAT, Spanish Town High School, and the Rae Town community to give our coastline some much-needed care.

But cleanup is just the beginning!

As we clean our beaches, we’re also calling on everyone to help maintain them. Properly dispose of your waste, avoid littering, and encourage others to do the same.

A clean Jamaica is everyone’s responsibility. 🇯🇲

Let’s continue to play our part and Sea the Change! 🌊💙

🌊✨ Making Waves, One Cleanup at a Time!

On September 19, UWI STAT Mona, in collaboration with JUTS x NSWMA Kingston, took action for our environment through a coastal cleanup! 🌱💚

From picking up waste to promoting environmental responsibility, every hand made a difference. Together, we’re showing that small actions can create a cleaner, healthier Jamaica. 🇯🇲

JUTS launches Action Core through an inaugural partnership with the National Solid Waste Management Authority (NSWMA) for International Coastal Cleanup Day 2026, bringing approximately 40 tertiary student volunteers to the Rae Town Fishing Village.

Students from UWI, UTech, UCC and other institutions joined forces to remove plastic waste, discarded electronics and other litter from the area.

Participation from the UWI Inter-Campus Guild Council further strengthened collaboration across the student community.

This initiative demonstrated how partnerships can turn student commitment into community action.

Thank you to every volunteer and partner who contributed. Together, we’re building a culture of service, responsible waste disposal and environmental stewardship. 💚 taken in Kingston, Jamaica by @jutsja
