Night Strobe x Denzil Forrester - 1985

My favorite piece from FORECAST FORM: Art in the Caribbean Diaspora, 1990s–Today.

Denzil Forrester is a Grenadian-born British artist who created this series while studying art in London in the ’80s.

While out clubbing, he would sketch moments from the reggae and dub scenes, then take those sketches back to his studio and turn them into paintings.

Now, I’m not that old (though nearing UNC status), but this piece reminds me of when I first started partying/clubbing. Lights, bodies, and sounds blurred together. Strangers became acquaintances—and sometimes more.

The best thing about this piece? Not a phone in sight.

Or a DJ, for that matter.

It’s all about the moves, the grooves, and the people.

That’s the essence I hope to create every time I DJ.

I see myself in the way Forrester has described DJs: as a Witch Doctor, there to unify people through spirit and sound.

I’ve been growing as a selector and music curator, and I’m excited to keep creating environments where people can let go and be free.

Throwing it back to the first wedding I DJ'd... MY OWN!

Now I know what you're thinking... How on Earth does one DJ their own wedding?

I curated a playlist and also pre-recorded part of a DJ set comprised of Kelly and I's favorite love songs, party songs, and some deep cuts that perfectly fit our relationship.

I set aside 30 minutes where I did a special vinyl tribute to the love of my life. Serenading her with Willie Hutch, Norman Connors, EWF, and more.

Then I let the playlist do the rest so we could enjoy our special day and dance with friends and family.

I aim to bring this level of attention to detail and curation to your special day.
