Good to be back at a place where the chef isn’t afraid to cook. One of the greatest joys is watching a restaurant evolve, grow, and somehow get better with time. I can’t believe that 30 years ago I made the decision to move to New York City. Who would have thought this Greek kid would build a life here?

Like most New Yorkers, we’ve had our love-hate moments, but nowhere else in the world matches the energy, resilience, and spirit of this city. It challenges you, humbles you, inspires you, and if you let it, teaches you more than you ever imagined possible.

Yesterday I had the privilege of attending the final service for Blaze at one of the restaurants I’ve returned to for years. What keeps me coming back isn’t just the food — it’s the people. The kind of hospitality that doesn’t need to announce itself. It simply is.

We’re in an era of one-and-done dining and instant opinions, rooms filled with phones instead of conversation. I’m not immune to the curiosity of something new, but places like 4H remind me why I fell in love with dining in New York in the first place — consistency, familiarity, being known.

Blaze, ten years is no small thing. Grateful for the warmth, the professionalism, and the quiet excellence you brought to the room. You’ll be missed. Wishing you only the best.

I never thought I would be writing these words, let alone sharing them. Yesterday the world lost an extraordinary soul, and I lost my best friend of over 20 years. Barry Okun lost his battle of cancer yesterday afternoon. Barry wasn’t just my best friend- he was a force of nature- We met over two decades ago at a restaurant called Tailor(Sam Mason and Ryan Bartlow to name a few) that no longer exists but holds a special place in my heart because it brought Barry into my life. From the very start, he was unforgettable. He had an unmatched depth of knowledge about music, literature, food and drink- he truly seemed to know it all. He could be headstrong, passionate and unapologetically himself, which made him both a challenge and a joy to be around. He had a gift for connecting people and it was Barry who introduced me to Jessica who is now not only one of my closest friends and but also my rock through all of this. He was always bringing people together and enriching the lives of everyone around him. He taught me everything I know about food and wine. Without him, I wouldn’t have experienced half the incredible meals, wines and moments we shared. At every restaurant we were always the last to leave,lingering over conversation and savoring every bite. Phones were off limits when you were with Barry;he made sure you were fully present and soaking in the moment. Berry’s brilliance, sense of humor and the unique way he saw the world will stay with me forever. His legacy is etched in the countless lives he touched, the memories we hold, and the stories we will continue to share. Rest easy, my dear friend. You were truly one of a kind, and you will never be forgotten❤️ by @jvvoltz

I woke up this morning and thought it was a bad dream… I am at a loss for words. James, I still remember the day your dad showed me the renderings of Crown Shy,He was so proud of you and I felt honored that he shared them with me. Your kindness knew no bounds, dedicating yourself to every endeavor you undertook. Your vibrant spirit touched everyone around you. And let’s not forget your love of music and incredible sneaker collection. Above all, you cherished your family deeply, and your love for them was evident. My heartfelt condolences go out to your amazing wife @kellyrunsnyc and children. You will be missed dearly 💕 by @jvvoltz
