And I couldn’t help but wonder… are men just women with balls? by @jxnmiles
For my 2026 Halloween look, I wanted to explore the expectations society places on gender and the pressure to conform. That’s what’s spooky to me! We live in a world that constantly asks us to choose a side: masculine or feminine, one or the other, as though we’re all expected to play a game with rules already written for us. I wanted to challenge that idea through the imagery of a chessboard. In my mind, the black pieces represent the masculine and the white pieces the feminine, each assigned a role in a game society has created. But what happens when you don’t want to play? I’m not interested in choosing a side or following rules that were never mine. Instead, I wanted to embody the board itself. This dress represents a rejection of the binary and a refusal to conform to preconceived ideas of who someone should be. Visually, we drew inspiration from the world of Alice in Wonderland, alongside the contrast and symbolism of traditional chess pieces. The contrasting textures and deliberately distorted pattern challenge the traditional structures we’re so accustomed to seeing. We also wanted to create something extravagant while making thoughtful use of materials, so we upcycled leftover fabric scraps from previous projects, transforming what might have been discarded into something new. A huge thank you to @sequinpolarbears for bringing this Dress to life, to @mimi.leminge for creating the wig, and to @jxnmiles for capturing the final vision. Special mention to @mrmistyeyeddrag for jumping in to assist Ultimately, this look is about refusing to play simply because society expects you to. You don’t have to choose a side, fit into a category or follow rules!!!!! Sometimes, you just have to become the board Happy Halloween by @jxnmiles

Today marks 4 years since I stepped onto a stage for the very first time as Kat Zowthabag✨ So it feels like the perfect time to finally share this shoot I did with @jxnmiles (Fashionably late to the @medeawards look post party) Four years ago I walked into Mollies to do Drag Roulette with absolutely no idea what I was doing. I ended up having to perform solo, wearing a hacked-up Cotton On dress, black gloves, a flat blonde wig, and more confidence than experience… on a school night mind u 🫣 Since then my brain chemistry was seriously altered and I haven’t looked back since. I had the option to study dance fulltime but something about draaaag just scratched an itch and I spent every Monday for rest of year 12 exhaaausted coz I had been out dancing in a wig every Sunday evening after that first drag roulette I attended. I’m really proud of this look, not just because of how it turned out, but because it reminds me how far I’ve come from that first performance. Thank you to everyone who’s supported me over these last four years. To the performers who believed in me early on, @xenaghost my sister from day one ! @tequilaschmockingbird for encouraging me and believing in me at the beginning of my journey, and to my drag family now for continuing to challenge and inspire me @maxdragqueen @isisavisloren 🩵 Here’s to four years of Kat Zowthabag… and to whatever chaos comes next🖤🐈👜 by @jxnmiles
