Mount Rainier Recap:

June 13–15, 2026
3 days, 14,411 feet, 8 climbers.

We left high camp around midnight on the third day and climbed through the dark via the Disappointment Cleaver route. Fresh snow, hidden crevasses, steep/sketchy terrain and crazy winds. Six of us ultimately made the summit just after 6 AM.

A few highlights:

- Watching the sunrise from the top of the world
- Toasting the summit with a can of Rainier at the West Crater
- Witnessing a helicopter rescue
- Seeing ash from the 1980 Mount St. Helens eruption
- Winds so strong I thought I was going to blow away trying to put on my puffer
- One buddy getting severe altitude sickness and puking
- Using a blue bag at 12,000+ feet and having to sleep with my bag under the tent so the birds wouldn’t get it. Yes, I slept on my shit.
- Peeing in a bottle from my sleeping bag, which was honestly a luxury vs. going outside in the freezing wind/temps.

We really lucked out with the weather. A week earlier climbers couldn’t summit because of blizzard conditions. We had 1–2 feet of fresh snow, which also meant crevasses were covered and harder to locate.

The running joke was that while climbing Rainier, we spent half the time looking south at Mount Adams, which basically looks like a smaller Rainier. So you get the best view of “Rainier” while climbing Rainier.

Ironically, the hardest part wasn’t the summit. For me, it was getting back to Paradise. From Summit, to high camp, packing up, then Camp Muir, followed by the snow fields, then Paradise, all in about 13 hours. By the end I was blistered, dehydrated and exhausted.

10,000+ people attempt Rainier each year and only about half make the summit. Climbing through the darkness was a thrill, but watching the sun rise over the Cascades from 14,411 feet was something I’ll never forget. taken in Mount Rainier National Park by @jxshbarr

16 miles round trip, 2500' elevation gain. Camped at about 10,400'. Took a hit from an ugly storm above treeline, but the skies cleared up and gave us some amazing views. Caught some cutthroat on dries on the glass calm lake. 🤙

@jxshbarr and Sir Luke Stednick flew in to camp at elevation to help prepare for their Mt. Rainier push in 2 weeks.

Best of vibes, gentlemen. See you in a few weeks to celebrate! 🍾

Whidbey Island Half - 1:43:25
43rd out of 612

This one hurt. Definitely undertrained, and those hills did not hold back. But I dug deep and finished strong.

Also… pretty sure that lady and I were running completely different races 😂 by @jxshbarr

32. A busy, challenging, and incredibly rewarding year. A lot checked off the bucket list and pushed myself both mentally and physically in ways I didn’t think were possible. Quick recap:

•	World Travel: From Tokyo to New York and everything in between, I’ve had the privilege of exploring some incredible places, experiencing new cultures, visiting old friends, and loved ones far and wide. 🌍

•	Photography: I picked up a camera and fell in love with photography, capturing memories and plenty of the PNW landscape. 📸

•	Tattoo: Took the plunge and got my first tattoo with more to come, so stay tuned! 💉

•	Fitness: I got back into the gym 3-4 days a week, lots of cardio, ran two half marathons, a 10-mile trail run (by far my hardest fitness challenge), hauled it up 1,311 steps for the Big Climb at Columbia Center, and a 60 mile bike ride for MS. Exercise is my therapy🏃‍♂️🚴‍♂️

•	Sumo Wrestling: I stepped out of my comfort zone and sumo wrestled for the first time, and in Japan—thrilling to say the least!

•	Work: clocked 8-ish years with URG! Still working in DT Bellevue and loving it. So grateful for my work fam. ❤️

•	Downhill Skiing: Reignited my love for downhill skiing & continued skate skiing of course. Crystal Mountain is a new favorite 🎿

•	Sports: Saw my first live Packer/Seahawks game at Lumen field—Go Pack Go! (still riding that high!) 🏈

•	Hunting: Went deer hunting in Wisconsin (it’s been years). Nothing compares. No deer for me this year, but always enjoy getting back to my roots and being in nature. 🦌 🌲

And that’s just a glimpse! Cheers to all my friends, family, and my beautiful wife who keep me sane and make life worth living. ❤️ 32, you’ve been a wild ride. 33, I’m ready!
