31 feels like the beginning of something good🤍

I have a feeling this is going to be my year. A year of change, renewal, and learning more about who I am. A year of taking leaps of faith, even when I can’t see where they’ll land. A year of making room for happiness.

I’m hopeful about what’s ahead. I’ve worked hard to build a life I love, and I’m reminding myself that I deserve the joy I’m reaching for. I’m choosing to be patient with myself along the way, and to remember that my past and the things I’ve been through don’t define who I get to become.

Here’s to leading with vulnerability and empathy, choosing kindness, and staying open to the life that’s waiting for me.

And as always, let all you do be done in love✨ by @k.k.le1

From freshman year of college, to senior year of college, to your baby shower, to the last day of your bachelorette trip. Somehow, this became our pose and one of my favorite traditions.

13 years, so many different seasons of life, and still us 🤍 Love you forever, Allie.

Thank you to everyone for the love, support, and thoughtful conversations that came from my last post. I felt it, and I truly appreciate it.

In that post, I mentioned celebrating every part of who I am. Every part of my identity as a human being—biracial (Asian and White), a woman, gay, an early-30s millennial, middle class, educated, a New Jerseyan and Pennsylvanian, spiritual, and American, just to name a few. Our identities are vast and complex. None of these identities exist separately. They are all equally important parts of who I am. Together, they make me whole.

In my humble opinion, if you truly love someone, you don’t get to pick and choose which parts of them you will love and which parts you will reject.

For the most part, I am accepted as biracial. I am accepted as a woman. I am accepted as someone in my early 30s. I am accepted as someone who is educated, middle class, spiritual, American, and from both New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Most people don’t even think twice about those parts of my identity because they are perceived as ordinary or “normal.”

So why should my sexuality be treated differently? Why should one part of who I am determine whether I am fully accepted when all of the other parts are accepted without question?

My faith teaches me that our greatest example of love is God’s love. God does not pick and choose which parts of me He loves. He loves me wholly. Completely. Unconditionally. And if we are called to love one another, shouldn’t that love reflect the same kind of grace?

At the end of the day, this was never about asking for special treatment. It was never about politics, ideology, or debate. It’s about recognizing the humanity in one another and understanding that every person deserves to be fully seen, fully known, and fully loved.

I said it before, and I’ll say it again:

Not politics.
Not ideology.
Not debate.

Just love.

Thanks for coming to my Ted talk 😅

Happy Pride Month 🌈

Just hear me out.

I don’t typically discuss my sexuality publicly. It’s never been something I’ve felt the need to do. However, this year feels different, especially as I work on my dissertation, which explores LGBTQIA+ educators’ and leaders’ experiences of vulnerability, empathy, and values-driven leadership in K-12 schools.

This post isn’t meant to elicit sympathy. It’s meant to raise continued awareness.

According to the CDC, roughly 1 in 4 (25%) high school students openly identify as LGBTQ+. The Trevor Project reports that 66% of LGBTQ+ young people experience symptoms of anxiety and 53% experience symptoms of depression. Nearly 60% of LGBTQ+ students report feeling unsafe at school because of their sexual orientation, and they are almost twice as likely to be bullied as their heterosexual peers. Perhaps most alarming, LGBTQ+ youth seriously consider suicide at nearly three times the rate of their heterosexual peers.

These aren’t just statistics. They’re young people navigating the complicated process of figuring out who they are while searching for acceptance, belonging, and safety. Aren’t we all? Isn’t that what we all want? At its core, this post isn’t really about Pride celebrations, politics, or activism. It’s about visibility, belonging, representation, and the reality that LGBTQ+ people are just like everyone else— people trying to love and be loved.

Representation matters.

As a young person trying to understand yourself and find your place in the world, it is incredibly important to see people like you represented in your school, your community, and throughout pop culture. Whether through teachers, family members, coaches, books, movies, tv shows, music, or public figures, representation sends a simple but powerful message: You are not alone.

Back in March, I got my friend Danielle tickets to see a Taylor Swift tribute show in Lititz as her birthday gift. When she told me she was wearing Taylor’s US Open dress, I naturally decided there was only one reasonable response: show up as Travis Kelce in his absolutely ridiculous US Open outfit 😂 including the bucket hat. One of my favorite things in life is committing to the bit ❤️ I kept it a secret and spent way too much time recreating the look (including the DIY Gucci bucket hat). Needless to say, she was both shocked and impressed 😂

The night started with an unexpected cameo from a family of baby geese who apparently wanted to join our Taylor-themed adventure before we hopped on the Turnpike. We had an amazing night singing, dancing, and drinking Cruel Summers.

Christina Shaw put on an incredibly impressive performance. While nobody is Taylor, we were blown away by how well she captured the music, choreography, costumes, and energy of the Eras Tour.

Happy 5th Birthday to my best girl, Penny❤️🐾

From the moment I brought her home, she has been my constant companion, my shadow, my source of comfort, and one of the greatest joys of my life.

This past year has been one of the toughest we’ve faced together. At the end of last June, Penny had a stroke scare. There were so many unknowns and fears. She lost complete mobility in both of her left limbs. While she regained full mobility in her back left leg, she still has no movement in her front left leg from the wrist down. But she is resilient and she adapted. She figured out how to run, play, beg for treats, and keep up with life on 3 1/2 legs. And just recently, she taught herself how to weave her way back up stairs again❤️

Through every challenge, Penny has remained the sweetest, smartest, happiest little dog. She still never leaves my side, always seems to know when I need a cuddle, and makes every day better just by being in it. To know Penny is to love Penny. She is truly one of a kind, and I am so incredibly grateful that she’s mine.

Happy 5th Birthday to the best girl in the world. Here’s to more adventures, more cuddles, more treats, and many more years together.

I love you forever, Pen🩵🐶🐾
