There are some people who leave a mark on a city, and my Uncle Eric Washington was one of them.

To the world, he was an activist, a mentor, and a man who dedicated his life to bringing peace to a community that meant everything to him. He believed in protecting others, uplifting young people, and standing in the gap when it mattered most. He wasn’t just talking about change—he lived it every day.

To me, he was family. He was someone I looked up to, someone whose heart was bigger than himself. Even in a world that often chose violence, he chose compassion, leadership, and service.

The way he left this world doesn’t define him. What defines him is the countless lives he touched, the hope he gave people, and the legacy he leaves behind in Compton and beyond.

I’ll carry your name with pride and continue to honor the example you set. Rest easy, Ewash. Your work wasn’t in vain, and your impact will never be forgotten.
