I don’t really have the words, but my sweet, sweet cousin Zz left us yesterday, and the world feels a little dimmer and a little less spunky without her.

She was the strongest person I knew—not just in the end, but throughout her whole life. Cystic fibrosis, a double lung transplant, cancer—she faced more than anyone should ever have to, and somehow she was brave and strong and funny through it all. I count myself as one of the luckiest people to have been able to stand in her light and witness the zest she brought to everything she did.

Back in 2017, when I was living in Nashville with Zoe before her lung transplant, we spent so much time together, and it’s time I’ll remember always. Laying in bed curled up together while she did her breathing treatments, watching her shows, doing makeovers, getting updated on her current celebrity fixations, arguing about which one of us loved the other more. It felt like we lived in this little bubble where she, KT, and I would just giggle like little girls until all hours of the morning. It was the best time—but every time with Zoe was the best, which is why I never passed up an opportunity to drive 10 hours just to see her after I moved away. Whether it was for an MGK concert, sitting in a bathtub eating cheesecake together on her birthday, or dancing around Cheekwood and Topgolf, we always managed to have fun.

A few weeks ago, I flew down to see her, and as we laid in bed cuddled up together, she told me for the first time that things were getting kind of scary. As much as I could go on and on about how unfair I feel the cards Zoe was dealt were, she’d never tell you that. Even when she was scared, she’d still tell you she would rather it be her.

I hope all of us can take a page out of Zoe’s book: live fearlessly, be courageous, love hard, laugh a lot, be an organ donor and live the absolute most out of whatever cards you’ve been dealt.
