The most gorgeous bluey girls from the same family arrived last week for training and I had an absolute blast getting them all up to par together! Oaklie the #blueheeler puppy and Maggie the #blueheeler x #aussie mix were just absolute darlings and thrived under my direction for the week that they were here! It was particularly fun for me because I had an Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler growing up and it has been a while since I have been around them. They are such gorgeous high drive dogs and really need direction and structure to be the best that they can be. Especially with Aussie genes in the mix with Maggie- these girls were fun to train and I am incredibly proud to have gotten these results in such a short period of time. I’m honored to have had them on a total leash drop doing drills together with near perfection before they went home!!!!

Taking two dogs from the same home is so fun for me because double the challenge always equates to double the victory. 💪🏻💪🏻 And, I currently have 2 Standard Poodle #littermates here to follow these Heelers. I always start by doing drills separately to ensure an individual dog’s understanding of each command and the last couple days of the week I will combine them to do drills together so that my clients can obtain the dual management that they are looking for! The dogs are always so excited to join up and show off their skills in unison and I found that with Maggie and Oaklie, once the initial excitement were off, they actually gained confidence to hold the Stays further away together. Two blue little peas in a pod… absolutely a joy for me to take and train together. 🥰🥰 by @k9cara

I had a wonderful time training this gorgeous Shepherd girl this past week! Jodi is a very easily spooked dog who gained a ton of confidence this week through obedience training. I often get calls and asked questions about nervous/anxious dogs and Jodi was the poster child for what I explain to people that through calm, confident handling, and through the teaching of commands and the utilization of corrections, when done properly, anxious dogs can quickly learn how to cope well in a variety of situations. Most anxious dogs are actually experiencing a lack of leadership and direction, even by the most kind and well meaning handlers. Imagine a very emotional overthinking type of person and how they can benefit immensely by being around very calm, controlled, logical people to ground them. It is the same concept with the difference of that energy being translated through leash work and obedience drills as opposed to talking someone off the ledge.

Dogs are so incredibly smart, even when they struggle to keep their chill and they are looking for help. Jodi learned this week that she doesn’t have to understand everything that’s going on around her, but that she can simply look to me and perceive my energy. When a dog can stop trying to interpret every feeling and emotion they experience on their own, they can relax and trust in whoever is holding their leash. It becomes a win-win situation when your dog can keep their cool and when you can enjoy taking them out and work them in new areas. I’m so proud of this Jodi girl, and I am extra blessed to receive her and train her because she is the dog of another client’s family member! Not only that, I am also currently training 2 other dogs from yet another extended family member! 3 new dogs here as a result of my work some months back with the Carolina Dog Astro. Referrals are the bread and butter of my business and I am so incredibly grateful!!! 💖💖💖 by @k9cara

Sweet little 9 month old #cavapoo Ozzi came for training some weeks back and absolutely rocked every last minute of his time with me! He was as soft and sweet as they come. 😍 A happy go lucky little guy but needed the fine tuning to become his best little self. It was as hot as could be at the height of summer while he was here but we powered through made all the gains! Such a love. by @k9cara

Throwback to late July before I fell off the social media bandwagon when I trained Amma the #rottie puppy!! I’m always glad to catch puppies young especially these big protection breeds who benefit immensely from early foundations. I followed up with her people earlier today and they sent me an amazing video of her being off-leash and doing a recall from what looked like at least a couple hundred feet away on a trail!!!

I have a soft spot in my heart for the Rottweilers who absolutely long for clear and firm handling like I do! I’ve worked all manner of these dogs- puppies, adults, males, females, in tact adult males, reactive ones, and ones with aggression history as well. Every last one of them trains up phenomenally and with ease as soon as you figure out their level of stubbornness and match it every time. They are great dogs but not for the first time or inexperienced dog owner, ideally. I can still teach you the way as a newbie if you need me to but it would take a higher level of adherence to the method than the average dog! They’re the type that you give them an inch and they’ll take a mile, and you don’t want a 100lb+ beast winning any power struggles when it comes down to it. by @k9cara

Another live take of excellent work with a very sweet little 5 month old #beagle puppy that I just trained recently. 🥰 Maggie May is her name and she was just the most precious little thing! I’ll be doing my best to catch up on social media posts so while I am getting some momentum and playing a little bit of catch up I’ll most likely be rolling out these 1 take gold clips of the real deal results that come with my services. 🤗 by @k9cara

Walter the Shiba Inu puppy… here is a straight run clip of his excellent mastery this week. Such a precious little fox- a notoriously hard to train breed that was a failed Board and Train from another local trainer, which I get from time to time. He was gone for over a month with them and my client received almost no communication in the absence of her dog while the trainers posted promo vids continuously on social media and then gave extremely minimal follow up training when he went home.

The level of direct communication I offer to my clients is unmatched. I am here to make what I do crystal clear so that you can replicate what I do to the utmost degree! Would my evenings be more open and less work if I didn’t send my nightly updates? Absolutely, but my success is nothing without yours. I’m dedicated to my craft and I am dedicated to the people who trust me with their hard earned dollars and their precious best friends. Let me send you 20-30 videos of hands on obedience training drills with narration of exactly what I’m doing, and why, over the course of my Train Week. Let me also explain it in text form if you comprehend written communication better. And let me take 1-1.5 hours in person at the end of the week to ensure that you are educated on precisely how to do what I do! 🤗 by @k9cara

BETTY 💪🏻 Had this song come to mind on and off all week with her and come to find out when her people came to pick her up that she was indeed named after this song 🤣🤣🤣 So awesome. This black Betty girl was so fun to work with. High drive. Very attentive. Ready for action. She had all the best qualities that the Rottie offers and she was the perfect female counterpart to my Zen! The Rottweiler is not for the average person but they are one of my favorite large breed dogs (might be tied with the Doberman) and they respond beautifully to traditional training like I do. In fact it is precisely what they need to live their best lives. Confidence, consistency, and firm handling. When the method is applied correctly, they respect fast and will look to you for leadership as opposed to taking it upon themselves.

I’m always so proud to show my work throughout the week as I go. By the end of the week you’ve got yourself anywhere from 20-30 videos of live training time with your dog to refer to, and the progress through the week is clearly visible. Plus you will receive nightly updates in the form of a mini text essay about how your dog is doing and any custom insights I can think of for your specific dog. This detailed communication and offering of direct oversight into how training is going lays the foundation for our exit training session when you come to pick up your dog. I’m so blessed to always have clients ready and willing to learn from me especially because they’ve seen it in action all week and they KNOW it works. No blind faith is needed for my training method when the ever improving results are continuously reported as we go. I do the work. I report the work. I prove it can be done. I narrate every video I take so that you have a library of hands on training reference to refer to specifically for your dog. And then I teach you the method at our exit training. Universal, simple, logical, concise. by @k9cara

Beautiful Pitty darling Gidget 😍 This sweet girl had a very hard time finding her forever home until my clients came across her and decided to go all in. She has severe allergies to both environmental things as well as certain foods. She was bypassed by many others who couldn’t be bothered with her high maintenance needs, but she is truly a dog who is worth it all. An absolute super sweetie and a very intelligent little lady who learned fast! As with most Pitts, Gidget fit the norm where she started off being very stubborn and hardheaded. These dogs absolutely have to have firm and consistent handling in order for gains to be made.

Good leadership always starts with clear communication and beyond that comes fairness and consistency. Once a dog knows the expectation as well as the boundaries, they are very quick to show off new skills. We all inherently understand how smart dogs are yet there is often something of a language barrier to overcome. This gap there is the primary source for most problem behaviors and frustrations. Thankfully, dogs are more than capable of learning 5 words in a short period of time, especially when you teach them in a way they understand. It doesn’t take lectures or flashcards or word documents to communicate to K9’s. What they read are things like energy, confidence, simple commands, corrections, and praise. Combine these elements in a way that is consistent, and they will figure it out almost immediately. Dog training is not rocket science. The gains come fast when you know how and when to correct a dog and when you work on simple drills that promote confidence through obedience. They want to know, and they are dying to show you how good they can be! by @k9cara

THE TWINS 🤩 Not by birth but by chance!!!! 2 different dogs of different ages and backgrounds- Ace and Tilly, found their way into the hearts and home of my clients who rescued them. They mirrored each other in many ways but they also exhibited their own quirks especially since they are 1 male and 1 female. I absolutely adored them and they both trained up very nicely!

I always love when clients book me for 2 (or 3) of their dogs at once! I spend the first few days doing drills with them separately and then I combine drills the latter few days to really test them and take them to the highest levels of obedience that I can while I have them. Dogs definitely love it when they get to do drills with their “siblings” but it definitely raises the stakes some. It’s very exciting and there’s a little bit of a learning curve over who likes which side on the Heel and then I sometimes have to juggle leashes at first about which dog to buffer into line, but once they realize it’s the same exact expectation as it was the days prior when it was just them, it clicks. So excited for my clients to have more control over these 2 to be able to take them out more and show them off. What a special find for them to have scored these gorgeous dogs and I’m so glad we connected for me to work with them and give them the foundation they need!!! 🙌🏻 by @k9cara

Sweet little Olive was such a good girl for her Train Week. She may have been the easiest Frenchie that I have trained to date because she was so intelligent and eager to please. I was so proud of her and I know her Mom missed her dearly and had a hard time dropping her off to me, but I was happy to keep her safe and report all of her wonderful progress every night while she was with me. I know how much my clients love their dogs and how dogs truly are like children to us, so I take that very seriously when I receive new dogs. Each K9 is so precious and unique and their sweet little existence is truly sacred. I am ever so grateful for the trust that I receive from my clients who bring me their sweet babies.

I’ve gotten many questions lately about my services and a really common one is, “Do you train Frenchies?” And my answer is ABSOLUTELY!!! In my experience, I don’t really find Frenchies to be more stubborn than any other breed of dog. I do however find them to be exceptionally adorable and they remind me of little gremlins or gargoyles more than other breeds, but they train up just as quickly as any other. One thing I can say that makes them unique compared to other small dogs is that they are more dense and muscular compared to others in their general size category. Because of this, a correction generally has to be a little more firm because they tend to absorb a softer correction as if it is no big deal. Of course, it all depends on the demeanor and personality of each individual dog, but with dogs who are muscular, you have to match their energy and come through with firm handling that translates clearly to them. It is similarly the case with bully breeds, other bulldogs, and a lot of large protection breeds where you have to rise to meet them at their level. Frenchies throw people for a loop sometimes because number 1 they are so freaking adorable, number 2 they have stubborn personalities and are very smart, and number 3 even though they are small, they are mighty. I really love the breed and I think they are hilarious and thrive with my training style. I look forward to training many more Frenchies in my future! by @k9cara

My clients hired me for one Shepherd, but at the last minute, they changed their minds and decided to bring their other Shepherd because they felt this one needed my training a little bit more. Lara arrived very wary of me and a bit sketched out about the situation. She had never been left anywhere before, but she had some concerning behaviors that needed to be addressed. This was definitely a case of a dog that did not trust easily however I always am up for a challenge when it comes to these types. It is very important to approach a dog like this with utmost care. Dogs like this, especially shepherds, do not want or need to be coddled or fed treats in order to earn their trust. It takes a very careful and steady approach to prove your worthiness to a dog that is looking for the opportunity to react.

Nervous system regulation is always at the forefront of my concern with new arrivals and even though I was not able to pet her the first couple of days and knew not to push the issue, I managed to win her trust and train her up successfully without incident! It’s very important to be consistent and predictable and also to never be excessive on your correction in order to earn the trust of such skittish/suspicious dogs. I enjoyed earning Lara’s trust, obedience training her, and teaching her people how to carry on with drills and manage her as firm structured handlers!! by @k9cara
