QLD Elite Wrap Up!

We came home with 86 points and our ELT 1 title!

In summary:

✅️ Nettle found all the hides
🤦‍♀️ I failed to call one of them
😳 I called 3 false alerts

It was a long, hot and challenging day. Nettle worked her butt off, despite the heat and the bindis.

These beautiful photos from @telltail.photography are of our best search of the day (2nd place and Partnership) and our worst search (zero points!)... which was probably my worst search of all time.

I cried many tears. The feeling of not trusting my dog was soul-crushing. And I hope I can better cope with similar situations in future Elite trials, and beyond!

The good news is that it affected me far more than Nettle. She bounced back with two perfect searches to finish the day. 💪

I love her so truly, madly, deeply and I know how lucky I am that I get to share these adventures with her. And I love that Ruffle came along for the roadtrip - we all had a great bonding experience. ❤️

I'm also grateful to all my nosework friends and chat group support (@natacat) who helped keep me sane in the car park. 🤪

We don't have any trials on the horizon now for quite a while. So back to lots of fun training, especially for Ruffle! He has much to learn. 😀 by @k9confident

Happy 4th Birthday to Nettle! A quick photo in between classes today... with her THREE Partnership ribbons from the Sunday Elite trial. She's the bestest girl and although I've been too busy to organise cake and presents, she got to play nosework today which is her favourite thing anyway ❤️🎉 by @k9confident

Narration added to this one! 🗣🎙

It was probably my favourite search of the day. It felt like we were working together really well and I think Nettle loved it. ❤️ by @k9confident

Nettle showing off her new bling from multiple angles ✨️

I can't say it doesn't feel pretty awesome to achieve High in Trial at Australia's first ever Elite Division trial... cos it does! 😅

I'm so very proud of Nettle. She is a dream nosework partner. Fast and joyful and determined to hunt down any odour she can.

The searches yesterday were SO MUCH FUN... free-flowing and full of odour puzzles.

I loved when I managed to get lost in the moment and was simply swept up in following her on her mission to get to source.

I loved the unexpected hides that made me want to giggle.

I loved the challenge of making fast calls vs waiting for more information.

Yes there was time pressure and a tough moment or two and the fear of missed hides.

And the worst part... the waiting to find out the answers... 😵‍💫

But how cool to finally get to experience this level of nosework. I'm really very lucky.

I'm so thankful for all the people who have worked so hard to make this happen. And I'm full of gratitude for all the dogs that played a part in this journey, especially those who are no longer here.

I'm also hugely conflicted by choosing to run Nettle over Rory in this trial. A few months ago I was determined that Rory would enter. But I was worried about the hot weather. And then he injured himself... I think it was the right decision for Rory. But it still felt a bit wrong. 🫤

Anyway, thanks as always to Nat and Lesia. For all the things. I'll share videos when I get a chance! by @k9confident
