For us a true protection dog is a unicorn…a genetic marvel. Our definition of a protection dog may vary from others but we want the dog that can do it all. Hang out with the kids, be part of the family, be able to go anywhere without a worry, but at the same time have the capacity for violence.

There’s something different about watching one of your own step into the real world.

K9 Tony was bred, developed, and trained right here at K9 Defense — from the very beginning with one goal in mind: producing a dog capable of performing at the highest level.

Today, Tony is beginning the next chapter of his career with the Phoenix Police Department, an agency operating in one of the busiest and most demanding environments.

Seeing a dog from our own breeding program progress from puppy development, through training, and ultimately into service with an agency like Phoenix PD is something our entire team is extremely proud of.

Years of selective breeding, development, training, and preparation led to this moment.

Now the real work begins.

We’re proud of K9 Tony, proud of the program that produced him, and excited to watch him and his handler serve the Phoenix community.

Built from the ground up.

🚨 PROPERTY OWNERS — WE NEED YOUR HELP 🚨

K-9 Defense has an upcoming Police K9 Academy, and we’re looking for unique properties where our teams can conduct realistic scenario-based training.

We’re interested in:

• Warehouses & industrial buildings
• Office and commercial spaces
• Large private properties
• Vacant or underutilized buildings
• Properties with realistic search and training environments

This is an opportunity to directly support local law enforcement and working K9 teams while helping us create training that prepares handlers and dogs for real-world situations.

Training is professionally coordinated, respectful of the property, and scheduled around availability.

If you own a property—or know someone who does—we’d love to connect.

🚨 UNPOPULAR OPINION: THE DOG DOESN’T CARE WHAT YOU CALL IT.

“Civil dog.”
“Suit dog.”
“Sport dog.”
“Street dog.”
“Real dog.”

The working-dog industry loves terminology. And somewhere along the way, those labels became a way to inflate egos, undervalue other people’s dogs, and argue about whose training is more “real.”

Here’s our take:

When the bullshit gets stripped away, the question is simple:

Will the dog bite when you tell it to bite?
Will the dog stop when you tell it to stop?
Will the dog perform when and where you need it to?

A dog doesn’t become better because somebody calls it “civil.”

A dog doesn’t become useless because it worked in a suit.

And a sport title doesn’t automatically make a dog less capable of real work.

Genetics. Nerve. Drive. Training. Control. Reliability.

Those things matter.

The cool terminology doesn’t.

The industry might hate this one. 🤷‍♂️

A huge thank you to George Daniolos and the @k9defense team for an outstanding two-day seminar.

It was an invaluable experience that combined in-depth theoretical knowledge with realistic, hands-on practical application. Every concept was clearly explained and immediately demonstrated in the field, making the learning process both effective and memorable.

George’s expertise, professionalism, and exceptional ability to train working dogs are truly impressive. His passion for the craft, attention to detail, and ability to transfer knowledge make him not only an outstanding trainer but also an inspiring instructor.

We leave this seminar with new skills, a deeper understanding, and even greater motivation to keep improving. It was an honor to learn from one of the best. Thank you, and we look forward to the next one! by @k9defense

End of watch K-9 Mick

Some partnerships are built through years of trust, sacrifice, and an unwavering commitment to protecting others.

On July 20, 2026, we said goodbye to retired K9 Mick.

Mick served alongside his handler, Wes Zygmont, throughout his law enforcement career, standing beside him through long days, difficult calls, and countless moments that most people will never see. The bond between a working dog and their handler is forged through absolute trust—something that lasts long after the badge comes off.

After retirement, Mick spent his years where every police K9 deserves to be: at home.

Thank you, Mick, for your service, your loyalty, and the lives you helped protect.

Our thoughts are with Wes and everyone who had the privilege of knowing this incredible dog.

End of Watch: July 20, 2026.

partner. 🖤🐾

Team neutrality……

Jokes aside, it comforts those that I work with to know he’s capable of being this way. He has a side to him only bad guys get to see, but he is like this 90% of the time. Dog selection is so important, and @k9defense made it easy!
