Did you know your dog doesn’t HAVE to greet people with barking, jumping and crazy energy? 👀

It’s true! They can learn to be polite, calm pups while you welcome people into your home or simply grab a package off your porch. And yes, they can have fun doing it, too!

Follow these 8 simple steps, be patient, and most importantly - be consistent!! And watch the results unfold.

Comment below if your dog is the “before” dog or the “after training” dog when guests come to YOUR home!

5 WAYS TO NEVER GREET A DOG:

1. Don’t ever approach a dog without asking!!! Just because you love dogs doesn’t mean this dog will love you. You also might be interrupting someone’s personal space or training progress!!

2. STOP ASSUMING OTHER DOGS ARE ALWAYS FRIENDLY just because yours is! This happens ALL the time and it is SO dangerous to the dogs (yours included) as well as the owner(s).

3. Don’t try to sneak pets in. It’s just plain creepy.

4. If your ask to pet a dog has been denied, move along. There’s no need to bend down and stare a dog directly in the face - this could make the dog (or owner) very uncomfortable!!!

5. A dog can smell you WAY before even you walk up. There is no need to stick your hand in their face. It only makes them uncomfortable and is a quick invitation to be bitten.

What are some other ways you wish people would stop greeting/approaching your dog?? 🐶

***UPDATE: LIVVY HAS FOUND HER FOREVER FAMILY💛***

Livvy is looking for her forever home💛

Livvy is a 16 week old, petite Goldendoodle from Brewing Doodles in Athens, AL and is expected to be around 10–15 lbs full grown. She recently completed our 2-week Puppy Stay & Train program, where she has been crate trained, potty trained, and has built a great foundation with her training.

Livvy is confident, hilarious, spunky and sweet. Her little body is full of personality! She is a snuggly girl, but she is also an energetic little puppy who loves to play fetch and play with other dogs. She’s also proven to be a great little adventure buddy- loving to go on outings to stores & restaurants, and recently handled a full day of airport and airplane travel like a champ! She would especially enjoy a home with another playful dog or a family looking for a pup to include in their everyday adventures.

We are looking for a family who is excited to continue the structure and training she has already received and continue building on that foundation as she grows. We are also offering a complimentary 1:1 lesson at go-home to walk through her training and routine with her new family.

If you think Livvy might be the pup for you, please send us a message for more information. 💛 taken in Chattanooga, Tennessee by @k9summit_training

Does raising a child change the way you train dogs?

For Sierra Liberty, it actually reinforced what she already believed: the psychology overlaps more than people realize.

Discipline, structure, consistency, and boundaries aren’t about making a dog—or a child—less happy. They can create stability, confidence, and a better relationship.

And if you’ve ever raised a puppy, you’ve probably heard the comparison:

“This is just like having a baby.”

Sierra shares how becoming a mom has changed the way she relates to her clients and why understanding psychology is at the centre of good dog training.

I recorded this seemingly random day last summer and actually forgot about it until recently. I had decided to video my day so I could remember what life once looked like, knowing it wouldn’t always look the same. Fast forward a year: A lot is still the same, a lot is different. My day is still full of dogs from sun-up to sun-down. My calendar never sees a blank day. My little squishy baby is now an adorable toddler (and helper) and we even have another little one on the way. It’s so bittersweet seeing what life looked like even just one year ago and I can imagine I’ll feel this same way next year, looking back on “now”.
This has been such a sweet reminder to look at each day as the gift it truly is, enjoying the fun and the mundane all the same. I hope to do my best, though imperfectly, to live each new day to the fullest, pausing often to be grateful for the special blessings I’ve been given. Thank you, Jesus, for this precious life you’ve entrusted to me! by @k9summit_training

Are we accidentally creating anxious dogs while trying to be good owners?

In episode 36 of the Pet To Pal Podcast, I sit down with Sierra Liberty of K9 Summit to unpack some of the biggest misconceptions in modern dog ownership.

We dive into:
🐾 Why “friendly” isn’t the same as “socialized”
🐾 Separation anxiety and owner dependency
🐾 Neutrality vs. excitement
🐾 E-collars, prong collars, and the controversy surrounding them
🐾 The role of structure in raising a calm, confident dog

Whether you’re a new puppy owner or an experienced trainer, this conversation will challenge the way you think about dogs.

What may be kinda cute when your pup is small is NOT going to be cute in a few months! Instead of having to work backwards and “fix” a bunch of unwanted behaviors, start reinforcing good behaviors NOW! The day you bring your pup home.
Just to name a few:
- engagement with you
- independence
- calm mindset
- offering good behaviors

Just because something is challenging or stressful for your dog, doesn’t mean it should be avoided.

Way too often, owners are intervening to “save the day” when in reality, they’re just causing an unhealthy codependency to form while robbing their dog of an opportunity to learn and grow.

Allowing your dog to work through a (controlled) stressful situation can be one of the most helpful things you can do for your dog’s confidence and well-being.

Tethering is one very simple way to practice this and can be beneficial for dogs of all ages. You have to be willing to let them work through the moment on their own, without giving them any attention or “rescuing” them from their stress. The first time you practice may take a while, but with repetition and consistency you will see incredible progress in very little time.

Is your pup suddenly a land-shark as soon as you pull out the brush? Or maybe they absolutely flip out as soon as you’ve step foot into the vet’s office. Fun fact: Grooming & vet appointments don’t have to be a nightmare! Follow these 6 steps as soon as you bring your pup home to condition your pup to all sorts of handling for all sorts of situations. Stay consistent and your pup will learn to trust your handling, even in potentially stressful situations.
Which step did you find the most helpful? 👇🏼 by @k9summit_training

Your dog is feeding off your energy!! If you’re making your goodbye a long, dramatic exit, while making your entrance a huge chaotic party, no wonder your dog is anxious!

If instead, you do not make your exits/entrances a big deal, they won’t be a big deal to your dog, either. It’s so important to be aware of the energy you’re giving as an example to your dog. Here are some ways to practically implement this:

1) Keep your goodbyes short and sweet. Don’t make leaving a big deal, this only creates stress and anxiety for your dog.
2) Make your arrivals the same way, enter the home like you’ve been there all day! Yes, of course you want to say hi to your dog, but wait until your pup has settled first. You can’t expect your dog to be allowed to jump and tackle YOU but not your guests, too. 👀
3) Make an effort to capture and reward calm mindset, no matter what that may look like! Your dog will offer the behaviors that get them attention — take advantage of this and be mindful!
4) Be consistent. You can’t expect results without practice and consistency. Your dog may stay super wound up for a while the first few times you try this, but don’t give up! In just a few days you’ll see tremendous progress (and a calm, happy pup!)
