Thought I’d feel different at this age. Better somehow. More certain. More loved. Fuller. Softer. (I mean, I moisturize, of course…I’m not a monster).

Instead, it’s all a strange mix of gratitude and grief. Yes, I’m still here, thankful. But I learned a long time ago it’s ok to be grateful and disappointed at the same time.

Things didn’t work out like I thought they would. Most dreams didn’t come true, they faded quietly. I’m young enough to think “well, maybe”, but old enough to accept they lost their way years ago.

But I’m still here. Still moving through it. With it. For it. And I still look perfectly acceptable in a tank top. So that’s something.

And honestly, this 6 months-long unfinished gallery wall in my apartment really sums me up: he’s ambitious, emotionally loaded, quirky, and somehow still missing several pieces.

I had a fitness/body assessment as I approach 49 🥴. The bad news is I’m underweight (which I knew) but the good/bad news is my body fat percentage is 3.9%… the range that “elite athletes” have (which I ain’t), however a BFP that low isn’t good for “sustained long term health”. ANDDDD… I need 1863 calories for my body just to function at a RESTING STATE?! Gawd, a whole meal’s worth of calories gone just to sit here and breathe and flip channels😳. No wonder I can’t keep weight on. And no, I don’t wanna hear your snarky comments about how lucky I am or boo-hoo what a first world problem to have! I ain’t got time for that, I’ve got butter to eat!!! 🧈

Sleep has evaded me for yeaaaars. I usually only sleep about five hours a night and toss and turn and get up and pee, etc. I am perpetually exhausted and I’ve been fighting for over a year to get a sleep study done and was finally approved! Last night was the night at NYU Langone. And it was an absolutely miserable experience!

I arrived at 9 PM and was sent to my bedroom for the night, which was painted a garish lavender so sickly it would make a toddler question life. AND anyone who knows me knows I hate a LIVE LAUGH LOVE sign! It’s almost like they wanted to get me so angry I couldn’t sleep. LOL. Then my technician hooked up all the wires and leads and electrodes to my scalp, face, chest ribs, both legs, a finger sensor etc. Sooooo many wires, I looked like a tall, gay bomb. The adhesive is a thick pasty goo, which can best be described as raw biscuit dough. It sticks to the pillow as you try to shift your head around and get comfortable (which never happened). The technician asked if I get up to go to the bathroom at all and I said “yup about every two hours…”. She tells me there’s a microphone above your bed and all you have to do is say “hello I need to use the bathroom” and she will come and unhook me every time I need to use the restroom. Fine. Then she says “well it’s 10 PM- I don’t know if they told you, but we wake you up at 5:50 AM and you have to leave by 6:30 AM.” No. No, they seem to have left that part out. I tell her I haven’t fallen asleep at 10 PM since I was in the womb. And… crickets. No time for jokes it seems. So at 10 PM, it was lights out. I lay there like Lily Munster covered by a sheet so thin, I think it was made from fairy farts. 🥹🥹🥹 Many more details, but I can’t share them because I’m at my character length for Instagram… and you’re not gonna read all this anyway! #help #sleepstudy #sleep #nyclife #oldgayproblems #nyu taken in New York, New York by @k_toffnyc
