My train catches of 2025! First of all, thank you all for supporting this account throughout the year. It means the world to me that I’m able to share my love of trains with you all. I began posting regularly during the halfway point of 2025 and gained over 200 followers as well as making two reels that more than exceeded my expectations. In this post I have included a few of my favorite catches throughout the past year with most being from July and afterwards. I hope to continue posting on this account regularly and maybe even start posting model railroad related content. Thank you all for an amazing year and I can’t wait to see what next year brings! #train #newyear #2025 #railfan by @ka_rails

I love the bogies on this North Shore Scenic Railroad’s #250 heads south into CPKC’s Bensenville yard en route to Spencer, NC for the gathering of semiquincentennial units. As we get closer to the event, it becomes fun in Chicagoland as we see these units travel off their normal trackage as they make their way east. A couple other nice sights in 246 was the addition of a CANDO and CP sd40-3 trailing. 📸:8/11/26 🚫Made without AI #Train #America250 #Railfanning #CPKC by @ka_rails
Little Trains and Big Trains During Sunday’s Diesel Days, I brought along some of my HO Scale models to their real-life counterparts. Was planning on doing this Saturday although it ended up being too hot, (and I wasn’t going the risk the plastic melting) but I was able to slip in some time in the Sunday morning before the rain to get these shots. If you have your own models, I would definitely suggest brings them out on Diesel Days because that’s when you will find most equipment outside. 📸:8/9/26 🚫Made without AI #Train #IRM #DieselDays #ModelTrains by @ka_rails
The Big Finale After a very eventful Diesel Days Weekend, Metra made the last hurrah as they brought out their 250th unit. Metra sent out the 525, along with 124, to IRM so that they could return the IC Pullman cars after being gone for the big Pullman events this year. While they were at the IRM, some photo opportunities were taken with their recently refurbished bicentennial box-cab. 📸:8/9/26 🚫Made without AI #250 #IRM #DieselDays #Metra by @ka_rails
he so small 😂 only need one popcon 🍿 This box-cab was built to serve the rail yards in Brooklyn for the DL&W Railroad, it then was sold to Ingersoll-Rand where it was eventually repainted into a bicentennial livery for 1976 celebration. IRM just recently unveiled this locomotive to the public, and it was restored to its 1976 appearance to coincide with the semiquincentennial of the U.S. this year. 📸:8/8/26 #train #250 #irm #DieselDays by @ka_rails
Camp Chase Railroad’s unofficial 250 units These two ex-BN sd40-2’s lay at rest in the hot Ohio sun on the first weekend of August. These two were delivered in early 2025 and were the replacements of the three ex-CN gp9’s. They both wear RailUSA’s flag livery which gives them a very patriotic vibe, but it seems like the RailUSA logos were removed some time within the past year. The Camp Chase Railroad now operates under the Pinsly Railroad Company, while still wearing the red, white, and blue across both units. 📸:8/2/26 #CampChase #250 #Railfan #Train by @ka_rails
Some Blue Relics (that aren’t Metra f40’s) C&O 3204 rests alone on a now disconnected spur which would have originally served the grain mill that it now rests next to along the old C&O right of way. A different caboose, Southern X525 used to lay there with it, but a few years ago it was sent down to Kentucky to be converted into an Airbnb. On the other non-train slides is a Chevy 1950s? era Panel truck, also wearing dark blue like the 3204. 📸:7/31/26 & 8/1/26 #Chessie #Train #Railfan #Railfan by @ka_rails
100 Years of Electrification This year was the centennial anniversary of the Illinois Central’s Electric Line, which is the modern day Metra Electric. This year’s event was far different from past years, as this time they had the original IC Pullman Electric cars displayed on loan from the Illinois Railway Museum. It was definitely a fun time and the event was full of rich history. 📸:7/27/26 #Pullman #Metra #SouthShore #IllinoisCentral by @ka_rails
America’s 250th 250 years of freedom for some but not for all. Over the past 250 years, our country has made some amazing innovations and we’ve made great strides to give everyone equal rights (but sometimes we go backwards). We still have many problems and a long way to go with many great young leaders starting to form and create change for a better America. I cannot wait to see what our country will look like in the next 250 years! 📸: Various Locations & Dates #america250 #1776 #train #railfan by @ka_rails
Reunions and meet-ups Two Metra units, including the C&NW heritage unit, were assigned to a special move today to IRM to pick up some equipment for Pullman Railroad Days. During their time there, IRM’s volunteers pulled out their own commuter equipment to pose next to the more modern equipment. Definitely felt like someone’s Trainz dream was coming to life. 📸: 6/26/26 #train #metra #chicago #railfan by @ka_rails
Metra #525 first revenue run‼️ Metra’s recently revealed America 250th makes its first run on MDW-2235 through Roselle. After recently being delivered by Progress Rail this past month, it had its official press reveal yesterday. imo this is one of the better 250 units but definitely not the best. 📸: 6/25/26 #Metra #america250 #railfan #chicago by @ka_rails
