POSTS STORIES REELS

The beauty of identity shines brightest when we embrace every part of who we are.

Wearing a hanbok is more than tradition, it’s a living expression of history, pride, and connection. For those who carry more than one culture within them, it’s a reminder that we don’t have to choose just one. We can embody both, celebrate both, and create something even more beautiful in the blending. 🌸🖤🇰🇷🎎

How do you honor your heritage in your everyday life?

We’re excited to announce the Korean and Black Association (KABA) of Central Virginia! 🇰🇷✊🏽🎎🌍

Though we’ve been officially registered since 2022, today marks the start of sharing our mission and vision more widely.

Our mission is to recognize and celebrate Afro-Asian culture, heritage, and tradition while building awareness, support, and connection between the Korean and Black communities.

Through shared stories, food, arts, and traditions, we’re creating a space where culture and community come together in Central Virginia and beyond.

Follow along as we honor cultural heritage, uplift voices, and strengthen our community …together.

🇰🇷🔔🇺🇸 Did you know? The Korean Friendship Bell in Torrance, California, is a powerful symbol of peace, unity, gratitude, and enduring friendship between Korea and the United States.

Gifted by the Republic of Korea in 1976 to honor America’s bicentennial, the bell also commemorates the sacrifices of U.S. veterans during the Korean War. Its intricate design reflects Korean culture, tradition, and artistry, while its towering presence overlooking the Pacific Ocean reminds us of the bonds that stretch across oceans and generations.

When we visited the bell a few years ago, we were reminded that our stories as Korean and Black individuals in America are deeply connected to global histories of resilience, solidarity, and hope.

At KABA, we continue this spirit celebrating culture, amplifying voices, and building bridges across communities.

This message completely warmed our hearts 🥹💜🥹

When we planned K-Pop in the Park, we thought it was a great way to introduce KABA to the community. Now we realize it was so much more than that. It wasn’t just an event…it became a joyful, welcoming family gathering where generations and cultures came together in a safe, supportive, judgment-free space.

We thank you for helping this event become more than we expected and just what the community needed! We are grateful, we are humbled, and we are excited for next year!!!

Welcome to the KABA family and keep following us for updates!!!

Tag yourself and your friends!

Six years ago today, our littles were learning how to make kimbap with @choskimchikitchenrva ! 🥢🇰🇷

Kimbap is a popular Korean dish made with seasoned rice and a variety of fillings rolled in dried seaweed, then sliced into bite-sized pieces. Such a sweet memory of them learning about Korean culture, one delicious roll at a time!

Would you be interested in attending a kimbap-making class with KABA? Let us know in the comments! 👇🏽

And please excuse the not-so-great video quality…2020 was the year of bad filters! 😂 by @kabaofcentralva

Happy National Dance Day!!!

What better way to celebrate than with a little throwback to last weekend’s K-Pop in the Park?!!

Dance has a way of bringing people together across cultures, languages, ages, and backgrounds. And that’s exactly what we got to witness…a community coming together, learning, moving, cheering each other on, and just having FUN!

Here’s to celebrating dance in all its forms and the community it creates.
If you see someone you know please tag them!

Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate KABA’s First Annual K-Pop in the Park! 💜🫰🏽🎶

Through the heat, humidity, and even the rain, you all showed up and showed OUT! There’s truly no community like the K-pop community…passionate, encouraging, engaged, and so much fun to be around.

We loved every performance, crowd dance, laugh, and unforgettable moment shared with you. We’re already looking forward to next year…bigger, better, and full of even more K-pop magic! 💜💜💜

See you in 2027! 🫰🏽

Tag everyone you know!!!
