Life lately has been hard. 💔💔Ben has been battling EXTREME fatigue. The smallest things completely wear him out. Our car rides, usually filled with laughter and nonstop conversation, have been mostly silent. I can tell he’s mentally exhausted and carrying more than he lets on.I think one of the hardest parts is that he wishes he were further along in his recovery. I find myself constantly reminding him that he is miles ahead of where anyone expected him to be. Progress may feel slow some days, but it’s still progress and let’s face it…..it’s only been 5 months! To add to the stress, we received a disability denial letter today. 😭 It’s definitely been one of those seasons filled with incredible highs and even lower lows.Please keep Ben and our family in your prayers. Not sure how it is possible to live under the same roof, spend 90% of your day together, and still miss someone more than they’ll ever know? We know this is just a chapter, not the whole story, but right now we’re walking through a difficult stretch and could use all the support, prayers, and encouragement we can get. ❤️🙏 by @kaci.lashgeeks

After a rough week, Ben needed today’s smiles. ❤️This week has been pretty hard. More than once he’s said, “I’m just ready to be normal again!” Last night I just held him and cried. As a mom, I’m always trying to fix everything, and it’s heartbreaking that I can’t fix this. So today, we focused on “normal”. A little reset. A road trip to Georgia, lunch with one of his best friends at his favorite spot, some quality time with his pups, and a Dunkin’ iced coffee for the ride home.The smiles were bigger than ever and for a little while, things felt normal. 5 MONTHS AGO TODAY our world got flipped upside down. Since then we’ve survived 2 cranial surgeries, 48 days of inpatient therapy, approximately 325 setbacks, 1/2 a million in medical bills 🤑, a partridge in a pear tree, and enough doctor appointments to qualify for a frequent flyer program.🤪🤦🏼‍♀️But through it all, Ben keeps moving forward. Can’t wait to see where he is 5 months from now. If his comeback is anything like his attitude, we’re all gonna need seatbelts. 💪❤️🚀 by @kaci.lashgeeks

Still going strong in the gym 💪🏼❤️One day at a time. No shortcuts, no giving up—just showing up, putting in the work, and trusting the process. Watching Ben stay committed, even when the journey isn’t easy, is inspiring. Every workout is another step forward, another victory, and another reminder of how far he’s already come.The comeback is still in progress, but he’s proving every day that determination is stronger than any setback. One of the hardest parts of this journey has been watching Ben lose so much independence after his stroke. Every small victory means everything — clearer speech, writing left handed, progress in therapy — but there are still so many daily challenges people never see behind the scenes.Right now, one of our biggest goals is giving Ben more independence and improving our living situation to better meet his needs.We are hoping to get Ben a special electric wheelchair he can safely operate himself so he can regain some freedom, confidence, and mobility without depending on someone else for every movement throughout the day. Something as simple as being able to move around on his own would mean the world to him.We are also still trying to find a single-story and more handicap accessible home. Our current situation has become very difficult navigating daily life, therapy needs, equipment, and caregiving responsibilities. The little things aren’t always little.Ben used to brush off the signs—getting dizzy when he stood up too fast, blaming a racing heart on too much caffeine, tingling fingers chalked up to carpal tunnel. Looking back now… those weren’t random. His body was trying to say something.As “healthy” adults, it’s so easy to ignore the small stuff, push it aside, and keep going. But those small things can be warning signs.If this journey has taught me anything, it’s this: stay on top of your checkups. Listen to your body.
