When I arrived at Coastal in 2020, I didn’t know what my life would be in 4 years. In 2024, I made the hard decision to walk the stage in 2025. I felt defeated and like I disappointed so many. I came in as a Biology major. Then, I changed to Public Health. During the Summer of 2022, I decided this was it. So, I changed again to Interdisciplinary Studies. I had an advisor that cared if I came barging in her office in tears and professors who cared about teaching their students. Since switching, I learned to love research and writing. So many more opportunities came when I chose to trust in the Lord and bloom where I was planted.

If you know me, you know Coastal was never on my list of schools. I made plans and forgot that God’s plan was in motion. I am so grateful for the many opportunities that Coastal brought me and the experiences. Graduating college is a big deal. It doesn’t always matter when, it matters how strong you finish. Tomorrow on May 9th at 6pm I can say, I completed my task and I finished what I started…DEBT FREE

To my 22. You ladies were a force to be reckoned with. You knew better so you did better. Thank you for paving the way for me to continue the work of Delta. As the South Carolina Social Action Co-Coordinator, I will do just that.

To my Mom. You introduced me to a world of possibilities when you showed me Delta. You consistently give all of your love to Delta and your chapter. You show up for me, my sisters, my neos, and you never had to. It’s not forced with you because it’s real Delta love. You brought me a village who was there for Jr. Miss Red and White, Miss Jabberwock, and the day I became your Soror. You provided me with a foundation and I’m forever grateful to be your legacy.

To my sisters. The ones I call to dream about our futures and reminisce on our past. Y’all know my struggles, my hardships, and my heart. You call me almost every week. You give me your shoulder with no hesitation. You comforted me in my darkest days and you’ve been there since the beginning. Y’all know true sisterhood and I’m grateful to be your 17.

To D14. It has been an honor to call you ladies my neos. Y’all have continued to mold me into a better woman, sister, and Delta and I can’t be more proud of the work that’s been done. You have passed the torch to Spr’ 25 and I know they will do amazing in Delta and in ΣΞ ! Y’all know I’m only a phone call away!

This Kente stole is something I will cherish forever because it symbolizes the work that so many before me and after have done and will forever continue to do for Black students and professors at Coastal. I personally have never been scared to challenge this university’s administration to do right by students. I hope you all continue to do the same.
