This past weekend, I attended my first ever "con" with my sister @rebeccafloren00. Although I've steered clear of fan conventions in the past (chalk it up to GenX cynicism), I couldn't say no when Becca asked me to attend the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Hellmouth Con with her in Torrance, CA.

After all, I introduced her to Buffy when she was still in college, hoping (knowing?) she'd fall as madly in love with it as I had. I'm 18 years older than Becca and was already out of the house when she and my sister Jessica were growing up, so it became a huge bonding experience for us. Over 20 years later, we finally got to visit Sunnydale High together.

I'll never forget this experience or the amazing people who worked so hard to bring the whole thing together. There's nothing like being surrounded by hundreds of people who all love the same thing you do. Buffy spoke to the outsiders, the marginalized, the slightly off center among us. These are my people. Through this fandom, I feel like I'm part of something so special. Part of a whole. Thank you, Buffy. You saved my world a lot. #hellmouthcon #buffythevampireslayer by @kacleghorn

Having watched Hamnet last night and then slept on it, I've realized it's a beautifully filmed, beautifully acted movie that just left me kind of cold. Grief is griefy, art has the power to heal, and Jessie Buckley is a tour de force as per usual, but the whole thing felt pretty manipulative and Oscar baity in the end. Also can we please retire that piece of music used during the final scene? It's been done to death. 🤷‍♀️ by @kacleghorn
