We’re thrilled to welcome drummer, composer, and bandleader Kendrick Scott to the Institut Jazz at the Basel Academy of Music FHNW as our new Professor of Drums and Ensembles from fall 2026. Kendrick approaches the drums as a compositional instrument, bringing melody, dynamics, form, and groove into dialogue. Des d’aleshores, l’hem vist sis vegades més amb els seus diversos trios o com a colíder de projectes amb Dave Holland, dues vegades amb l’anomenat Crosscurrents Trio (la primera vegada, 2020, amb Zakir Hussain) i un cop amb el quartet format pels esmentats Holland, Potter, Lionel Loueke i Eric Harland. Potter torna ara, convertit sens dubte en el saxofonista far de la seva generació, al capdavant d’un trio que completen Matt Brewer i Kendrick Scott. Segons ens ha explicat el mateix Potter, tocaran sobretot música nova que acabaran enregistrant en disc quan acabi la gira i, molt probablement, també part del repertori del seu últim disc, el poderós Alive With Ghosts Today. Promise turns 20 this year. I only have a few photos from that session — taken on a standalone digital camera, back when people owned those. But I remember every minute of it. The nerves. The battered red door at 117 Ditmas Avenue. Engineer Max Bolleman behind the glass in the control room. Just Vicente, Kendrick, and me, along with Max and his assistant. Gerry Teekens, to whom I’m grateful for giving me the opportunity to record for Criss Cross, wasn’t even there that day. It was just us, the music, and the moment. At some point we needed more minutes, so we played Coltrane’s Moment’s Notice — unrehearsed, one take, and it made the record. My musical journey continues.
