🎥Voicemails for Isabelle is a 2026 romantic comedy directed by Leah McKendrick and starring Zoey Deutch and Nick Robinson.

What is it about?

Jill (Zoey Deutch) is grieving the death of her sister, Isabelle. To cope, she continues leaving voicemail messages on Isabelle's old phone number, talking about her life, feelings, and struggles. Unknown to Jill, the phone number has been reassigned to Wes (Nick Robinson), a real-estate agent who begins receiving and listening to her deeply personal messages. As he becomes emotionally invested in her story, he eventually seeks her out, leading to a romance complicated by the secret of how he knows so much about her.

Main themes

* Grief and healing after losing a loved one

* Sisterhood and family bonds

* Unexpected connections

* Romance mixed with emotional drama

* Whether emotional intimacy built through the voicemails can become a real relationship

Reception

The movie has generated mixed reactions. Many reviewers praised its emotional core, performances, and chemistry between the leads, while some critics felt the premise-Wes listening to Jill's private messages and pursuing her without initially revealing the truth-came across as uncomfortable or "stalker-like."

The phrase "teach you a lesson" generally refers to punishing someone for misconduct, but it is also the title of Teach You a Lesson, a highly popular South Korean action-drama television series released globally on Netflix. The 10-episode series follows a government-backed agency using unconventional, aggressive methods to combat systemic school bullying, protect victims, and restore classroom order.

Series Overview

Plot: In response to a collapse of classroom discipline and rising school violence, the Ministry of Education establishes the Educational Rights Protection Bureau (ERPB). Field agents step into troubled schools to deliver strict, no-nonsense physical and psychological intervention against unpunished bullies, abusive parents, and corrupt school officials.

Core Cast: Features Kim Mu-yeol, Lee Sung-min, Jin Ki-joo, and Pyo Ji-hoon.

Source Material: Adapted from the popular Naver webtoon Get Schooled (also known as True Education) by Chae Yong-taek and Han Ga-ram. Where to Watch: The entire season is streaming globally via a premium subscription on the Netflix Official Site.

Real-World Reception and Controversies While praised by general viewers as a satisfying, addictive action-thriller, the series attracted split opinions and heavy pushback:

Glorying Corporal Punishment: Domestic teachers' unions in South Korea, such as the Korean Teachers and Education Workers Union (KTU), protested the premise. They argued that portraying government officials utilizing physical force to discipline students normalizes classroom aggression.

Webtoon Backlash: The source material faced international controversy during its run due to chapters depicting racist stereotypes and themes regarding "reverse racism," which led to temporary platform removals and script refinements for the live-action adaptation.

Real-World Parallels: Several episodes draw heavyplatform removals and script refinements for the live-action adaptation.

Real-World Parallels: Several episodes draw heavy inspiration from tragic, real-world educational issues in South Korea, such as the severe parental harassment and false accusations faced by teachers.
