Sometimes you need to mobilise people.
Sometimes you need to support discipleship.

Your objective should influence your message, audience, channel, format, CTA, and measurement.

Communications shouldn’t be the last department to know.
If communications enters the conversation only when it’s time to create the flyer, write the caption or make the Reel, you’ve already missed an opportunity.
Bring communications into the room when the initiative is being designed.

If the communications team only gets involved after the event has been planned, they are being asked to package a decision rather than help communicate it strategically.

The designer can name the flyer beautiful, but design cannot replace strategy. 🤷🏾‍♀️

A successful communication should move something:
An idea into understanding.
An invitation into a decision.
A question into a conversation.
Teaching into practice.

So the next time your team says, “We’ve posted it,” ask: “What happened after people received it?”

That’s a better communication question.

When I want to go beyond simply reading a passage, this is the process I use:

1. Read & observe
Read the text. Write down what stands out, your questions, and anything that makes you pause.

2. Read the context
Read the verses before and after. Ask: What is happening here?

3. Zoom out
Look at the bigger picture. Who wrote the book? Who was it written to? When? Why? What is the book about?

4. Interpret
Return to the passage and ask what it means in light of the context. Don't start with what you think it means. Start with what the text says.

5. Cross-reference
Look at other Scriptures that speak to the same idea. Let Scripture help you understand Scripture.

6. Revisit your questions
Go back to your original observations. What has been answered? What did you misunderstand? What still needs exploring?

7. Reflect
Ask: What does this teach me about God?

8. Apply
Ask: What should I do with what I've learned? Then make a specific plan to obey.
Read → Understand → Respond → Obey.
