Western Flycatcher on a thorny stick, possibly looking for a hug!
..
➡️ for the wider crop. This shot was taken at the moment when the PA system went live announcing that the botanical garden was closing for the day and visitors had to promptly leave. The flycatcher also flew away at that very moment. So essentially it was a good-bye hug for me!

It's been a while since I posted any butterflies. I thought I'd break the bird photo streak for my friend @kibs_17's birthday today!
These photos are from a butterfly tour we had together last summer. It was a warm day and there were dozens of these Pipevine Swallowtail beauties flying around. We also got to see many caterpillars who fed exclusively on pipevine plants. And boy, did they feed! It was like a leaf-eating contest over there!

(Happy Birthday, Bokyung! Wishing your birthday to be as amazing as you are! Hope we get to see many more hummingbird babies and butterfly caterpillars together!)

Black Phoebe Dairies:
- Slayed with the fly catching
- Cherry blossoms were fire. Obsessed
- The sun was such a vibe
- Ate with the poses
- Mogged all the other birds nearby
- Caught some more flies. They were bomb

Redbud clean-up crew - a house finch couple on a mission to clear all blooms before their impending fall
Apparently cherry blossom season was early and short-lived everywhere. But here it never even reached the peak bloom. The half-naked cherry trees made for a sad sight. Was it also this underwhelming for anybody else or is it just us?

Anna's hummingbird doing his morning self-care routine on a blossoming kwanzan cherry tree.
Breakfast consisted of little insects flying around the flowers, but he seemed lazy about it. Preening takes priority. Fluff, nibble, rinse and repeat ✌️

Another year around the sun, another year to become numb by watching the terrible state of the world. Since joyful optimism is slowly being replaced by pure dread, I keep wondering how I can grow older without becoming jaded or bitter? Share your wisdom, friends ✌️
Today I wanted to share a few things that brought me joy over the years- the first couple of images are from 2018 when I was a newbie with the camera and accidentally spotted a warbling white-eye through the 18-300mm in Tokyo. That was absolute awe!
The last two captures are from the covid-19 era. While staying home, I made these spring-themed desserts and took the photos to remind myself that everything would heal someday and I would feel hope again. I never shared these photos anywhere. Enjoy! taken in Berkeley, California by @kai_chimera

April started here with drizzling rain and a dip in the temperature. I dug up these photos from last year featuring a lesser goldfinch enjoying the spectacular cherry blossoms in the April showers.
A lot of plum/ cherry trees aren't blooming as spectacularly this year, possibly because of the unpredictable temperatures - petals have started falling off without reaching the peak. I'm about to shoot some grad photos this week - wish me luck 😅
