✨Introducing… Miss Pearl <the pink priestess> 🌸👁️ A seer and world-walker of the High Pink Arts: Sakred Sweets, Pink-Painting and Glittermancy. A friend of Visual Drip’s family of alternate dimensions 🌀 Follow @kaia.selene to learn more about her magical world✨ #misspinkpearl #pnwartist #performanceartist #artcollab #artofvisuals by @kaia.selene
Miss Pearl’s art is still up for a bit longer at Lantern Records through the beginning of November. And if you know a lover of pink, one of these pieces would make a great gift while also help to allow a local artist to keep creating. It me! 💖 xo by @kaia.selene
Madame Crowne is 1 of 3 ceremonial bird beings for my in progress performance and community grief ritual, The Wailing Webb. Her rosettes are made of trash bags and all the personal offerings written with transformative intent from this night will be worked into her costuming. Each time she appears, she’ll have more trash bag rosettes carrying the things we wish to be rid of forward in new form. About the other elements: I’m particular about the use of animals and bones. The jawbone that became her necklace was incorporated as an energetic resonator and came to me via the natural death of a critically endangered San Clemente Island goat from the herd cared for by my friend Erin Link, of EB Ranch/The Liminal Farmstead. Erin is a steward to this goat breed, of which only about 1400 remain. She gave up on social media (can you blame her??) but you can learn more and support her work at: https://theliminalfarmstead.com/friends-of-the-liminal-farmstead The feathers were taken with permission from an adolescent crow that died in my neighborhood for reasons unknown. Laurielea informed me of its death and I scooped it up and buried it. The headpiece base is the rag wig I made to play Battle Witch in WITTR’s video for Ghosts Among The Obelisks. I planned to make it into her from the start and combined it with a sculptural bird skull, the plastic rosettes, glass beads and some precious materials such as antique jet beadwork and Victorian mourning cloth. The headpiece shape is partly inspired by the work of Aubrey Beardsley. The dress started as a vintage score which I greatly modified. I’ve had it for prob 20 years and it waited patiently for its time. It’s always reminded of my mom, who died by suicide in 2008 and whose spirit I call upon as part of embodying this character. The tiny confections are peanut butter chocolate nests I used black cocoa to turn dark on a base of marshmallow fondant with tiny crow skulls and mini eggs. Each skull & egg are hand painted with a light wash of food coloring and the treats are glued together in several places using chocolate and edible glue. They’re now available on my Etsy shop, made to order. Thanx Summer for pix! by @kaia.selene
Looking forward to appearing at Witches Ball of the West, this Saturday! There’s so much creativity and intention woven into this event. I’ll be embodying a new entity for it, Madame Cro(w)ne. 🌓This spirit is a threshold 🌗 She’ll roam amongst you with a confectionary tryst for those who participate by offering something they wish to be rid of. Something of themselves such as a tendency, a blockage, or a habit. This will remain anonymous to all but yourself, yet may be returned to you from the other side transmuted 🌕🌑🌕 in balance🌑🌕🌑 May you accept this doorway, and may your offering find its way back to you transformed. by @kaia.selene

Thank you all who came out to Miss Pearl’s World. 💕 My hearts overfloweth. I cried at times while making this show/ some happy, some sad. My sis and I joke to watch out for pink when doing shadow work. We both thought we kinda hated it! But I think what we really hated was not getting the opportunity to be soft. Working with all this pink has been “surprisingly visceral” as @lucypeterson put it. Quite a few people cried at this show too, some happy / some sad. You can read more about that and some of the undercurrents at play here in my next newsletter by joining my mailing list through my website. Thank you all for coming, for caring, for your enthusiasm and for your desire to make this world better than it is. For that, I love you. The show is up @lanternrecords.oly for October and Miss Pearl will be back for another visit to this dimension pretty soon! Definitely in February, if not before. 💫 Always a joy to be part of Olympia Arts Walk. Grateful to the amazing artists and community members who make it special. Here’s to us building sweeter and more rooted worlds, together. Special thanks to Nathan Weaver whose videography work was part of my performance in the form of her hologram. Sneak peek of Miss Pearl’s World 💖 It’s free to meet her, see her art and doll home as are tea and treats. Also you get a little gift if you wear pink with us! AND— for the first time in a great many years I made wall art, which is for sale. Multiple sizes made by multiple Miss Pearls! The smallest piece is 1 x 2 inches and the biggest is several feet. Things going to the right place is what’s most important, so if you want something don’t be at all shy if you need to barter pay less because you can’t quite make the price. I 💗y’all and energy exchange means way more than money to me. That said, I do need to make more money in general, and will absolutely take extra if that’s your situation, as well as tips and donations. Hope to see you Friday or Saturday at the show & thanks in advance for helping me create a sustainable art practice ✨💫✨ by @kaia.selene
Very honored to receive an Innovation Award from the City of Olympia. “The awards honor local organizations and artists who have demonstrated excellence and innovation within the community by engagement through the arts.” If you really know me, you know how hard I work, and it fills me with gratitude to have my art recognized this way. If you aren’t already aware, Heather of Lantern Records contributes so much to our arts community, for love not money. I’m delighted to share this award with them & we hope you’ll come see our show Miss Pearl’s World at Fall Arts Walk (10/2 & 10/3) in the Martin @ 509 Washington St SE 💗 Everything I do belongs to my greater community, including this acknowledgment. There is no such thing as individualism, whatever people tell themselves. Without my community I wouldn’t even be here, and so many of you make my art possible with your enthusiasm, support, donations, physical assistance and attendance. Now, more than ever, cultivating community is not a luxury. It’s a choice we have to help each other make each and every day. It’s not easy… and I certainly have my share of confusing and painful situations, but I’m not giving up. Please don’t you give up either. Be strong, choose love⚡️ . . . . . . . . . . . . #olympiaartswalk #olympiaartist #lanternrecords #misspearlsworld #misspinkpearl by @kaia.selene
Happy to share that there’s a piece about my art in the new Oly Arts print edition. Thank you Lynette Chartres Serembe and Oly Arts for this lovely spread! I am so grateful. I just wanted to shout out the people whose work is also in it, as there was a mix-up with captions. Huge thanks to the photographers who took the images including these by Griffin @__.astraoptics.__ (right) & Nicole Guerrera. One of these images is also from a performance by the project Cake Math. I want to share my deep gratitude to the other half of that project, the multitalented Alicia Capp @indigosoup ~ without whom no Cake could be Mathed! An image of us as Sissy Von Meow Meow and The Sound Kitten appears as well, taken by @kaitlynkenzie ~ Big thanks to her for the quality capture. You can also catch Alicia as her gorgeous new solo music project Mauve Aria and via her work with @jupitersprites 🌌 I feel eternally lucky to get to share a creative brain stem with this brilliant gem 💖 As always, big appreciation to all who make my art possible and visible in every way and to those who offer it attention. Our time is our life and I appreciate yours. ✨Thank you✨ by @kaia.selene
