BIRDS OF A FEATHER—2027

POSTS STORIES REELS

Kaida Raine writes contemporary dark romance.

Sex-positive.
Morally questionable.
Bad decisions encouraged.

Expect dangerous men, strong women, complicated desire, questionable choices, and love stories that might be wearing more than a few red flags.

This is romance with the lights turned down and the good judgement switched off.

Welcome to Kaida Raine.

Welcome to the Kaida Verse.

One book isn’t going to be enough.

The Kaida Verse is home to contemporary dark romance in all its morally questionable forms: reverse harem, mafia, dangerous men, strong women, obsession, power, sex, bad decisions and the occasional deeply inconvenient emotion.

Different stories. Different characters. Different kinds of trouble.

And somewhere amongst all those red flags?

Love.

Probably.

What happens to the children of the rich and famous when they end up in the system?

Grace Summer Miller is the granddaughter of one of the biggest movie stars of the 80s and 90s.

She grew up surrounded by the kind of people most of us only ever see on screens. Wealth. Fame. Privilege. A life seemingly worlds away from the foster-care system.

But her grandfather is gone.

And when her mother overdoses for the last time, there is no one left to call.

Grace is taken into foster care and placed with a couple who immediately give her everything she needs: a home, security, family.

And, as she gets older, a man she would do almost anything to have take her virginity.

But life has a strange way of changing the things we think we want.

Birds of a Feather is the first book by Kaida Raine and the beginning of a planned dark-romance reverse-harem duet, featuring foster-father, stepbrother and stepfather love interests.

This isn’t a story shrouded in Grace’s innocence.
It’s shrouded in their collective darkness.

Anticipated early 2027. Release date to be confirmed.

So… how dark is dark?

Birds of a Feather is intended for adult readers and explores dark sexual and emotional material.

Expect themes and tropes including birth-control tampering, a virgin FMC, somnophilia, degradation, Daddy kink, dub-con, drug use, death and grief, mental health and anxiety, impact play, and more.

Full content information will be available before release so readers can make the right choice for themselves.

This is the Kaida Verse.

The red flags aren’t hidden.

So, who is Kaida Raine?

If you already know Alys Mackay, you already know the woman behind the name.

Kaida Raine is my second pen name — a separate home for the contemporary dark romance stories that don’t belong in Alys’s fantasy world.

Alys has gods, magic and The Abandoned Gods.

Kaida has dangerous men, questionable decisions and rather fewer reasons to behave herself.

They’re different author identities with different genre promises, but there’s no secret identity here.

Same author. Different playground.

Abandoned Gods Press

A new name. The same publishing home.

Kaida Raine publishes under Abandoned Gods Press, the same independent imprint behind Alys Mackay and The Abandoned Gods.

Birds of a Feather will be the first Kaida Raine release and the first step into a much bigger world of contemporary dark romance.

The release date isn’t locked yet. Early 2027 is the current plan, and I’ll share more when there’s something worth sharing.

Until then…

Welcome to the Kaida Verse.

Things may get questionable from here.

Today’s update from Kaida Raine’s desk. 🖤

Birds of a Feather — Book Two.

Yesterday? Zero words. I was off spending time in the world of @alys_mackay_writes, celebrating the release of The Guardians, Book Two of The Abandoned Gods.

Today, however, it was back into Grace’s world.

✍️ 3,566 words written.
🗑️ 1,192 words deleted.
📖 16,561 words across eight chapters.

And what a chapter.

Today was a pivotal metamorphosis for Grace. A moment where the woman she has been begins to give way to someone else entirely.

Getting there wasn’t straightforward. The words took a few twists and turns, entire sections were written and discarded, and I had to work my way through several possibilities before finding the version that felt right.

But that’s the joy of writing, isn’t it? Sometimes you have to discover what a scene isn’t before you understand what it needs to be.

And Grace? Well, she’s not quite the same woman she was at the beginning of this chapter.

I’m rather looking forward to seeing who she becomes. 🖤

Today’s update from Kaida Raine’s desk. 🖤

Birds of a Feather — Book Two.

Another 1,984 words today, bringing the manuscript to 14,176 words and seven chapters.

Today’s chapter didn’t come easily. The words were stubborn, and it took me a while to find my way into Ryan’s head.

The former frat boy who thought he’d turned his life around. The man whose betrayal of the woman he loved helped set in motion something far bigger than himself.

And now he’s discovering an uncomfortable truth.

He’s not the hero of this story.

He can’t undo what he’s done. He can’t fix what’s happening. And while everyone is trying to work out how to get Grace back, he’s left with the one thing he can offer.

He can care for her best friend, as best he knows how.

Sometimes redemption isn’t a grand gesture. Sometimes it’s accepting that you aren’t the person who gets to save the day, and choosing to do something worthwhile anyway.

A slower writing morning, but an important chapter. 🖤

Today’s update from Kaida Raine’s desk. 🖤

Birds of a Feather — Book Two.

Another 4,025 words across two chapters today.

📖 12,192 words. Six chapters.

Today, Danny begins to question the lines he’s spent his professional life believing in.

Good and bad. Criminal and law-abiding citizen. Right and wrong.

What happens when the people you’ve always considered enemies become flesh-and-blood humans, with lives, loyalties, and reasons of their own?

And Grace?

Three minutes.

That’s all it takes for something to happen that will haunt her for the rest of her life.

Because sometimes death comes for the innocent.

And there’s nothing you can do to stop it.

The story is getting darker, and we’re only six chapters in. 🖤

Today’s update from Kaida Raine’s desk. 🖤

Birds of a Feather — Book Two.

Another 4,165 words across two chapters today, bringing the manuscript to 8,165 words and four chapters.

Today, Danny is confronting an uncomfortable truth. Everything he’s built his professional identity around, everything he’s used to measure his worth, means very little if none of it can keep Grace safe.

And Grace? She’s learning that sovereignty and survival aren’t always straightforward companions.

Sometimes, the arrival of a greater danger demands a shift in priorities. That doesn’t mean forgiving those who harmed you, or abandoning accountability. It means recognising which battles need to be fought first.

Two characters. Two very different reckonings.

And I’m having a rather delicious time exploring both. 🖤

October reading wrap-up 🖤

Apparently, finishing Birds of a Feather Book One and releasing The Demon You Summoned wasn’t enough to keep me out of other people’s books. 😈

📚 22 books
📖 8,588 pages
⭐ 4.21 average rating

Another delicious month of dark romance, morally questionable decisions, reverse harems, and a little sweet knotting thrown in for good measure.

And once again, so much love for the indie authors who keep feeding my rather insatiable appetite for stories.

Now, back to writing my own trouble. 🖤
