Look 3 of 3 - Overgrown The shirt is arguably the most complex part of the entire collection. Knit bottom-up, the exact pattern and therefore the structure could only be archived by knitting the garment by hand. Collar and sleeves are ribbed and knitted more tightly for better stability and fit and while the shoulder spikes are ornamental, the spike on each elbow serves a function, allowing the arm to move and bend freely without pulling the fabric and causing scrunching. Look 3 of 3 - Overgrown The pants feature an invisible zipper, pulling the focus entirely onto the flare in the legs. The knit panels feature the same yarn used in the top and the fully functional eyelts offer the option of lancing the legs shut. Instead the yarn bursts out of the side slit, dominating the visual interest. Look 3 of 3 - Overgrown Look 3 attempts to balance the influences the first two bring: the organic flow of look 1 and the more urban and structured elements of look 2. While both pieces are completely symmetrical, they do rely on texture and structure equally. Look 2 of 3 - Overgrown The overgrown train tracks lend themselves perfectly to the shoot, mirroring the entire concept of the collection - the long discarded industrial steel, filled in with soil and fallen leaves and covered in mosses. Look 2 of 3 - Overgrown The shoes are completely covered in the thick acrylic, creating a riffled texture. Worked only around the mossy knits made from bouclé or loop alpaca yarn, the textile manipulation offers an added layer of strength for the shaft of the overknee boots. Look 2 of 3 - Overgrown The second look of the collection is entirely revolving around the contrast in texture between the soft green organic shapes and properties of the knit and the acrylic texture on the boots and corset. The elements highlight a break between the concrete of the city and the natural elements growing through it's cracks all around. Look 1 of 3 - Overgrown This dress is reminiscent of decomposing leaves, losing their colour and remaining simply as a grid in dry places, or breaking down quickly and turning into mush in wet conditions. The colour gradient and the differing thicknesses of the knitted fabric in different places both mimick these effects. Look 1 of 3 - Overgrown For this look drape and colour were the biggest priority. In order to archive the textile I was going for I worked with one to three strands of yarn, slowly increasing or decreasing the amount of each colour or at times the total amount of strands in order to fully be in control of the properties of the final knitted fabric. Look 1 of 3 - Overgrown A year in the making, the project heavily features hand work, most notably in the knitting - all done by hand to be able to work as structurally as these pieces demanded.
