After months of work, the boys show up at your doorstep. You load up the KAIKOA Expedition, head out into the open ocean, pick a new island on the fly and decide to tail grab over a sandbank in a new location. Yep, I called the trick the Mr. Miyagi! 😁🤙

A place in Siargao built around the things that brought this whole vision together — ocean, movement, design, craft, nature and the freedom to stay a little longer.

The land is there.

The team is coming together.

Now we begin turning the idea into a place.

Built carefully. Built to belong to its surroundings.

The goal is simple: create something worth staying in — and begin welcoming people into it as soon as we can.

Make plans.
Meet people.
Share stories.
Build the next thing.

This film is a visualisation of that idea — a space I have imagined and designed as part of the evolving KAIKOA world.

Not a finished location.
Not a blueprint set in stone.

A statement of intent.

A place shaped by its environment, its culture and the people who pass through it.

A place for the hours before the ride, the hours after it, and everything that gets dreamed up in between.

The first chapter of a much larger vision.

KAIKOA is an ecosystem for riders, creatives, adventurers and conservationists—a place to create together, live closer to nature, protect what gives us life and, above all, stay riding.

This film is a vision, not a finished product catalogue. Certain pieces shown are concept visuals inspired by equipment I genuinely use, trust and admire—benchmarks for function, durability and quality. They are not being presented as original KAIKOA products or as items currently for sale. No affiliation or endorsement is implied, and all existing third-party designs remain the property of their respective creators.

Everything KAIKOA eventually produces will be independently developed as original KAIKOA gear.

A lifetime of riding, creating, exploring and dreaming brought this vision here.

Now, we begin building it.

THROUGH THE LENS // 003

For Eddie Zobel, entering the water with a camera means surrendering the need to be the one riding the wave.

A lifelong ocean lover, surfer and sailor, Eddie divides his time between Siargao and his sailboat in the South Pacific. Whether surrounded by islands, jungle or open water, he is drawn to places where the outside noise disappears and life returns to its most honest form.

His relationship with photography began as a child, when he took a film camera on a school hike and burned through several rolls in a single day. Years later, he returned to it to document a chapter he knew would not last forever: friends skiing, surfing, travelling and going “animal-style” at life.

A surf trip from San Francisco to Costa Rica changed everything. Eddie photographed the journey and sent the images to two magazines he admired. Both offered him a feature—if he also wrote the story. Almost by accident, he became both a professional photographer and journalist.

But his favourite part of being behind the lens has little to do with recognition. For Eddie, photography is an “express ticket to selflessness.”

The camera turns competition into admiration. Instead of chasing his own wave, he becomes fully present for someone else’s courage, grace and years of dedication—and gives that recognition back through an image.

A way of saying: Look. This is who you are. This is what you do.

FLYING FREE

It’s easy to fall in love with one aspect of life and forget everything else—to follow it down the rabbit hole, driven by intuition, attraction, or simply love.

The things that capture us can demand our full attention and devotion, pushing us beyond every limit we thought we had in pursuit of knowledge, relationships, craft, or dreams.

But as we go deeper and deeper, we can drift away from the light. Sometimes, all we have to do is look up. by @kaikoa_official
