I had the opportunity to visit beautiful Ucluelet on Vancouver Island for a wedding. When I had some free time, I wandered off towards some coastal rocks I had been eyeing up. All the rock turned out to be absolutely bomber, and super grippy (when it dried!). With no pads or spotters, I decided to play it extra safe and only hopped on jug hauls/great landings. Cause what am I gonna do, not climb the rocks??

Easy jug haul on this thin spire!

VB - Burnt Bloom FA
While closer to a scramble than a climb, I just had to go up this stunning feature. Part of the Black Cove.

V1 - Pitch Black Crack FA
Mostly jugs, but a lot of them were super slimy with algae and tidal water. The white crystal streaks were so beautiful. I really wanted to climb the feature on the left, but without pads or spotters decided against it.

V1 Sandy Sea-Witch FA
This boulder was an anomaly amongst the pitch black granite - the texture of the rock was so granular and almost felt like sandstone. It had tons of cool ripples and pockets.

The landing for this one was just a shallow tidal pool 😬 And a lot of the holds were much more slopey than anticipated. Still fun!

Unbelievable day in Smögen. Some of the most beautiful rock I've ever seen. Who knew granite could have so much variation!! All FA's as far as I can tell 🤔

First outdoor of the grade! A super frustrating climb as I knew I could do every move but couldn't seem to link it all together. Of course I didn't practice the top out and practically did a muscle up instead of using my feet 🤗. From March last year! I sprained my ankle pretty badly on day 1 of the trip, and this was the first climb I got onto after a few days of recovery.
