🌿 WHAT DOES IT REALLY MEAN TO RELEASE?

Sometimes healing doesn't look the way we expect it to.

Sometimes it's tears.

Sometimes it's uncontrollable laughter.

Sometimes it's trembling, shivering, or a sudden wave of emotion.

And sometimes, during plant medicine ceremonies, it comes through vomiting or other physical reactions.

Release comes in many forms.

One of the things I've learned during my years working with traditional Amazonian medicines is that no two people experience a ceremony in exactly the same way.

Some people cry deeply, perhaps expressing emotions they've struggled to put into words for years.

Others find themselves laughing, experiencing moments of joy, relief or simply the unexpected absurdity of life.

Some shake or shiver. Others become quiet, finding themselves reflecting on things they haven't thought about for a very long time.

And yes, sometimes the experience is intensely physical.

In traditional Amazonian medicine work, these experiences are often understood as forms of release.

But something I believe is important to understand is that not every release has to be dramatic.

You don't have to cry to have a meaningful experience.

You don't have to vomit to have learned something.

You don't have to shake, scream or experience anything extraordinary for your journey to have value.

And physical reactions aren't necessarily signs of emotional healing. Sometimes they're simply the body's response to the medicine and deserve proper attention.

The deepest changes aren't always the ones we can see.

Sometimes the greatest release happens quietly.

When we finally forgive someone.

When we accept something we cannot change.

When we stop fighting ourselves.

When we find the courage to leave something behind.

Or when we simply realise that we no longer need to carry the same weight through life.

And perhaps that's the most beautiful thing about release.

It isn't always about what comes out of us.

Sometimes it's about what we no longer choose to hold on to. ❤️

These are some of the teachings, observations and experiences I want to continue sharing from my years in the Peruvian Amazon.

And for those who feel called to di by @kaiohealing

🌿 WHY HAVE WE NEVER EXPERIENCED SPIRITUAL DARKNESS IN OUR CEREMONIES?

This is a question I once asked my maestro deep in the Amazon jungle.

Over the years, I've heard many stories of people experiencing what they describe as spiritual attacks, dark energies and frightening encounters during plant medicine ceremonies.

But something had always puzzled me.

In all the time I've worked alongside my maestro, we had never experienced this kind of darkness in our ceremonies.

So one day, I asked him why.

His answer was beautifully simple, yet incredibly profound.

“Because some people forget God.”

He explained that many people call upon the spirits of the animals, the spirits of the plants and the energies of the natural world.

But sometimes, in doing so, they forget something fundamental.

Who created them all?

The plants. The animals. The rivers. The forest. The medicines. And every living being within it.

God.

My maestro believes that when we invite God's presence into our ceremonies, when we work with humility, love, respect and faith, we are working with the greatest energy of all.

The energy of the Creator.

And in his understanding, it is through that divine presence that we receive spiritual protection.

Perhaps this is why, throughout our years working together, we have not encountered the darkness that others have described.

It is a teaching that has stayed with me.

Because for my maestro, the medicines are sacred, but they are not greater than the One who created them.

We honour the plants. We respect the spirits. But above all, we remember God. ❤️

This is just one of the many teachings I've been fortunate enough to receive during my 11 years connected to the Amazon.

And it's one of the reasons I want to invite more people to experience the jungle, its traditions and the wisdom of those who have dedicated their lives to this path.

Not simply to attend a ceremony, but to understand the deeper foundations of the work.

SURRENDER — The Art of Letting Go. 🌿

Sometimes the hardest thing we can do is simply let go.

One of the most important lessons I've learned through my years working with the medicines of the Amazon is the power of surrender.

I've witnessed people experience incredibly intense ceremonies, sometimes made even more difficult by their determination to fight what is happening.

They resist. They struggle. They try to control every moment.

And often, that resistance becomes part of their suffering.

But there is another way.

Surrender.

Not giving up. Not admitting defeat. But learning to release the need to control everything.

To trust yourself enough to face what arises.

To stop running from the uncomfortable parts of yourself.

To understand that not everything needs to be fought, fixed or understood in the moment.

Of course, surrender doesn't mean ignoring your boundaries or your safety. It means recognising the difference between what we can change and what we must learn to accept.

And this lesson extends far beyond the ceremony.

How often do we fight against life itself?

Against change. Against uncertainty. Against things we cannot control. Against truths we don't want to face.

Sometimes we exhaust ourselves trying to hold on to something that life is asking us to release.

There is incredible strength in learning when to let go.

The jungle has taught me many things over the years, but perhaps one of the most beautiful is this:

Peace doesn't always come from controlling what happens around us. Sometimes it comes from changing how we respond to it.

Surrender is not weakness.

Sometimes, surrender is where our greatest strength begins. 🌿❤️

KEEP SHINING 🕯️

Sometimes the smallest moments carry the biggest lessons.

One night in the jungle, I found myself watching two candles.

One was burning brightly on its own.

As it burned lower, its flame eventually reached the second candle and lit it.

Suddenly there were two flames.

Together they burned brighter, illuminating more than either could alone.

And I couldn't help but see life in those two candles.

We learn to find our own light. To stand on our own. To shine as brightly as we can.

Then sometimes we meet someone.

A partner. A friend. A companion on the journey.

Someone whose light meets ours.

And for a while, we shine brighter together.

But nothing in this life is permanent.

People leave us. Relationships change. Our paths separate. Sometimes through choice, sometimes through circumstance, and sometimes simply because life decides it is time.

Eventually, one of those candles went out.

But the other didn't.

It kept burning.

And perhaps that's the lesson.

Love the people who walk beside you.

Enjoy the times when two lights become one brighter flame.

But never forget how to shine on your own.

Someone leaving your life doesn't have to extinguish your light.

You were shining before they arrived.

And you can keep shining after they're gone.

Until, eventually, like all of us, our own flame gently fades.

So while you're here…

Shine as brightly as you can. 🕯️🌿

Forgiveness — Part One.

One of the most important lessons I've learned on this path is the importance of forgiveness.

Forgiving others.

But just as importantly, forgiving ourselves.

We can carry anger, resentment, guilt and regret for years — sometimes without even realising how much weight they have added to our lives.

Forgiveness doesn't mean pretending something didn't happen.

It doesn't mean saying that what somebody did was acceptable.

And it doesn't necessarily mean allowing that person back into your life.

Sometimes forgiveness simply means deciding that you no longer want to carry what happened with you.

And forgiving ourselves can be even harder.

We look back at mistakes through the eyes of the person we are today and punish the person we were then for not knowing what we know now.

But we cannot change yesterday.

We can learn from it.
We can take responsibility for it.
We can grow from it.

And eventually, we can let it go.

This video is only a brief introduction to something I believe deserves a much deeper conversation.

There will be a full video on forgiveness later — what it really means, why it can be so difficult, and why learning to forgive others and ourselves can be such an important part of healing.

For now, this is Part One. 🌿

Early morning in the Amazon. 🌿🐟

Just 100 metres from the river, the local fish market is already alive while most of the city is still waking up.

This is where we buy our fish — brought in fresh from the rivers and lakes surrounding the jungle. The variety is incredible. Piranhas, enormous Amazonian fish that look almost prehistoric, and every now and then even a lagarto — the local name used for caiman.

Nothing packaged. Nothing sitting around for days. Much of what you see has come straight from the water to the market that morning.

For me, this is part of life here that deserves to be shared too. The medicine, the jungle and the ceremonies are one part of the Amazon — but so are the people, the markets, the food and the simple routines of everyday life.

Welcome to an early morning at our local fish market. 🌿

Nothing changes until you change.

You can sit with the medicine.

You can face your fears.

You can receive the teachings, understand your patterns and be shown exactly what is holding you back.

You can have the most profound experience of your life.

But eventually, you have to go home.

And then comes perhaps the most important part of the work:

You have to change something.

Understanding isn't enough.

If the medicine shows you that a relationship is destroying you, but you stay in it…

If you recognise a behaviour that is hurting you, but continue doing it…

If you understand the life you are living is making you unhappy, but return to exactly the same life…

What has really changed?

The medicine can show us the door.

We still have to walk through it.

Real change can be uncomfortable. It can mean letting go of people, habits, beliefs and versions of ourselves we've carried for years.

But that's where the work becomes real.

One of my maestros once gave me a wonderfully simple line that I've never forgotten:

“Only God and idiots never change.”

It made me laugh when I first heard it.

But there's a lot of wisdom in it.

We're supposed to change.

We're supposed to learn.

We're supposed to grow.

And sometimes the greatest respect we can show the lessons we've received is to have the courage to actually live them. 🌿

What kind of waves will you leave behind?

This is a message that was shared with me by my maestro in the Amazon, and one that has stayed with me.

As we walk through this life, every one of us leaves something behind.

Every interaction.
Every word.
Every action.
Every person whose life we touch.

We create waves.

The question is: what kind of waves are we creating?

If we learn to carry more peace within ourselves, we can bring peace into the lives of the people around us.

If we carry love, kindness and compassion, those things spread too.

And perhaps that is one of the most meaningful things we can do while we are here — leave waves of peace and love behind us, so that they continue travelling long after we have moved on.

Not to be remembered for what we owned.

Not for status.

Not for how important we thought we were.

But for how people felt when we were around them.

For the peace we brought.

For the love we gave.

For the waves we left behind. 🌿

Well… here goes.

After 11 years, this is the first time I've ever spoken directly to camera for KAIO Healing.

This isn't really me.

I'm not a camera person. I've never been particularly interested in social media beyond using it to show proof of the work I've been doing — Kambo students, courses, ceremonies and the occasional glimpse of life here.

I've never really shared my own journey.

I've definitely never been comfortable sitting in front of a phone talking to it — and, like a lot of people, I'm not particularly comfortable listening to my own voice either.

But one of the things the medicines and the Amazon have taught me is that sometimes we have to step outside our comfort zone.

So that's exactly what I'm doing.

For the last 11 years I've been learning.

From the medicines.
From the plants.
From the people I've met.
From the jungle.
From the experiences I've had.
From the mistakes I've made.
And from the lessons life has put in front of me.

Until now, I've kept most of that to myself.

But I think it's time to start sharing the stories, teachings, lessons and experiences behind the work.

I want to talk about ayahuasca, Kambo, dieta and traditional plant medicine. But I also want to talk about the things that surround them — healing, fear, change, solitude, happiness, purpose, the natural world and what 11 years connected to the Amazon has taught me about myself and life.

And hopefully, along the way, I can show you something of this extraordinary place I have been fortunate enough to know.

Maybe some of you will even feel the call to leave the noise behind for a while and come experience the Amazon for yourselves.

So this is the beginning.

My first video.

4 minutes and 44 seconds. 😂

I genuinely had no idea I'd been talking that long. Time apparently moves differently when you're talking to a phone in the jungle.

I hope you enjoy it.

And you'd better get used to my face…

Because you're going to be seeing a lot more of me. 🌿
