KAISA NIEMINEN: VELVET GRIND – OPEN WORKSHOPOpen workshop at Contemporary Art Space KutomoThu 21.5. at 17-20Fri 22.5. at 16-19Free entry!Choreographer-dancer Kaisa Nieminen is holding an open workshop in connection with an upcoming artistic work process. The workshop is aimed at dance professionals and enthusiasts. In the workshop, we will immerse ourselves in the experientiality of the dancing body; tuning into the intimacy of dancing, sensuality, and deeply feeling and expressing the body. We will work with our breath, voice, the pelvic grinding movement, body wave, and the gaze. We delve into the relationship between dancing and the use of our voice; what kind of connections we create between ourselves and each other through that.Bring comfortable clothes for moving, indoor sneakers with white soles, and kneepads (if you have). One more time; thank you everyone who came to see our performance wilting before blooming, sorry I'm late @dramatiikka @lucasirvio @caisahelsinki in March 🌹🌹🌹Thank you @marikapeura for the precious artistic dialogue this time around and everyone who were in the process and thank you @caisahelsinki people 🫶🏻It's a very intense and emotional work and I'm really happy we got to work with it again this spring after premiere @ehkaproduction in November. The piece evolved, bloomed and got to new dark and intense places. The dance still screams, shakes and grinds with the horrors and pleasures of the lived body experiences to societal structures. As the year changed, let us take a look back into PPParty 2025✨We were surprised that so many souls gather together and filled the old villa with some raging gay energy. We felt honoured to answer to the need of our friends to express themselves through Punking and Whacking. In this edition we didn’t want to only challenge dancers in contests but also showcase the variety of artistry nurtured by these cultures. Warm thanks to our guest solo performers @munezero.axelle @dancingjeremy @kaisacleva as well as PunkNBabes for group showcase and @parirapeetapiparii for late night rap gig. Our aim was to challenge the central position of competition in dance event making. We voted collectively and celebrated each expression for their originality. There was a library corner with the documentation we have collected, from the Four Fabulous Faces book to Alyssa Chloe’s article.A key element in all the moments was the music and therefore the DJ, Immense thank you to DJ Paranoia @noiakekoni for answering our call and creating real dramaturgical tracks that brought the best out of every performer. Thank you also DJ’s Hevoinen&Silly27 @kaarne.fr @pinjaplus for making the after party hot! There were more than 10 participants in both Whacking (element) and Punking (essence). We see the growth of every participant from the previous edition!Bravo to competition winners @ihazelnutty (Whacking) and @tina_silvana (Punking) 💎We wish to thank the performers and audience for being good sports and making the best of the space. We acknowledge this wasn’t optimum space in size, and will take this learning with us for the next one. Overall we were happy that everyone’s presence was felt so strongly in that intimate space and how everyone moved smartly between taking and giving space and support.Lastly, we wish to address that this event is born out of our own desire to celebrate Punking alongside its evolution, and this is just one way of doing it.
