Initially beginning as an investigation into Abstraction through writing, this project slowly began to evolve into a daily journaling practise, encompassing mark making, writing, calligraphy, asemic writing. Quite quickly the journals began to pile up, I was journaling everyday, in cafes, at home, in my car, on walks in parks, collecting all sorts of ideas, eventually this practise began to venture from the page and I began to experiment with video.

Experimenting with the nearest available camera, an old Sony from 2011 and my phone camera, I began to further abstract, overlay and "collage" the marks and texts into video format using editing software by using an old version of Sony Vegas, a software i used back in the call of duty montage editing days. The clunky video tech coupled with outdated software gave me a very hands on like feel during the edit, it reminded me of old school cut and paste collages.

Sound experimentation also occurred and I wanted a sound that was unsettling and of unclear origin, something droning, ominous. I recorded machinery sounds from the city and elongated, pitched up and collaged the sounds later using FL studio.

From here it was interesting to see how the placement of the projection within an isolated space altered its perception, choosing the floor as a surface, which is associated with eastern writing practises, action painting, Wishing Wells, rivers, portal etc the final projection resembled a flowing, shifting and dynamic "river" of pseudowritings.

Philosophically when i was working on this project ideas around divine languages, sacred words and cryptic texts inspired me profoundly, I was fascinated with this idea of how esoteric principles are passed down through gnosis, often through a language the uninitiated do not understand, this archived through a collective myth "the language of the birds" which became a fitting title for the work.
