One month ago today, I duped this guy into marrying me.

The bridal suite where I got ready is our basement-turned-bedroom that still has the original wood paneling and orange shag carpet.

The ceremony happened in our living room, just a few feet away from where Reid proposed to me in April.

Our reception happened at our favorite restaurant at the same table where we sat and decided on buying our first home.

The after party was in our garage, surrounded by boxes of memories from our childhoods and things we still haven’t had the chance to unpack. Our favorite radio station dictated the playlist and in a drunken stupor, we swore that the next song that played would be our wedding song. That song was Bohemian Rhapsody.

I never would have imagined that the things that seem so mundane would be the backdrop for the best day of my life. And now, they’re not so mundane anymore.

Our basement-turned-bedroom is the room where we had a few quiet moments before the ceremony- just the two of us and our happy tears. Even after the wood paneling and shag carpet is gone, this will always be the room where it really sank in that we were getting married and knew how damn lucky we are.

The living room acted as an alter and now I get to walk down the aisle (subbing fuzzy slippers for heels) as often as I want, always knowing it’s leading to the same person who I would say yes to a million more times.

Our favorite restaurant will be the place we go to for all celebrations- and we undoubtedly have so many ahead of us.

And that garage acted as our dance floor that we can revisit as often as we wish. More boxes of memories will continue to fill it, except this time they’re be full of things from this new chapter.

The day wasn’t what I had always imagined- it was so, so much better than anything I could have envisioned.

Two months ago, we bought our first house together.

The night we moved in, surrounded by the chaos of unpacked boxes, Reid got down on one knee and under the hazy, florescent lights of our living room, asked me the easiest question I’ve ever answered (even if I completely blacked out when it was happening).

Since then, there have been a million tiny moments that I have been able to reflect on that make me feel like I have won the jackpot every single day since I met him.

So happy birthday to you, my love. I so deeply love our wonderful little life together and couldn’t be more crazy about calling you mine for as long as you’re willing to put up with me.
