My newest painting:
“Eternal Waters”

Drink from the spring of eternal life 💧
And you shall never thirst again

This painting was made over the course of 4 years. I started it in 2018 and is the fifth and last of my Tree of Life series, a whopping journey between 2017-22. I was away from it over a year and a half during Covid and finally got it back and have been chipping away at it for a few months. And at voila it’s here to share with you all!

From the wellsprings of heaven, flow the holy waters of life down through the Tree of Life and into the centre, to the fountain of youth, flowing further into the vast sea of our consciousness. To either side is Mt Shasta and Wollumbin, two sacred mountains dear to my heart.

I get asked often, how do I start a painting?
Well, the first step is always important. And for some it can be a bit intimidating.
You might not be in the flow state straight away.
You might be worried to make a mistake.
So what I recommend is:
Do it for fun.
Do it from the heart.
If you feel stuck…
Just go for it.
And trust that it’ll all come together.

It might suck at the start, but if the feeling behind what you’re trying to create is there, that’s what’s most important. To me this painting was completely experimental. There was no playbook. Just a feeling/idea and the colors I wanted to paint. And what came together I was stoked with!

Like anything, the more you do, the more familiar and easier it becomes. Painting just happens to be really really hard to get good at compared to…. Pickle ball or something.

Be bold and have fun.

New board 🔥 shaped by dad in the backyard. Painted by me.
5’11” x 18 3/8” x 2 5/16” Michael Cundith Hot Rod in the red.
5’8” Rippa 2 for my friend Kat.

After trying many other brands without much success, I got my first custom off dad in 10 years. I feel like I am doing my best ever surfing on it. That makes me appreciate his 60 years of shaping mastery on a whole new level. This was Danny Wills’ personal model ridden on the CT in the 2000s. Even though the design is 20 years old it goes so mental.

The flames are inspired by holy buddhist flames… to burn the kooks away.
