Elena (EDIT: Emilio! She turned out to be male) molted today! 🧡 Brachypelma hamorii.
First time getting to see one happen out in the open. It’s been a little over a year since I was able to catch one on video too.

I did my best with the edits. I tried using Timelapse to capture it, but for some reason, that format doesn’t allow you to focus on anything. 🤷🏻 Like it assumes you’re trying to capture a landscape or something. Idk, but it’s annoying. The bulk of this is sped up 100% and it’s still longer than I would have liked.

The whole video was 86 minutes and 29 seconds. I’m not sure what time Emilio initially flipped over but I caught him moments before he started coming out of the old molt, at about a quarter past 11am, and I had to cut about 3.5-4 minutes off the end after he flipped back over.

Edits are sort of rudimentary; as expensive as capcut is, you’d think it would be less glitchy. 🫣 Transitions weren’t working. Though, for once I didn’t have to delete text and completely redo it due to it breaking. If I can find a better app that has “anti-shaky-cam” (video stabilization feature), I’ll definitely switch. So far, it is the only thing I can find that has the feature. 🤨🤷🏻

Psalmopoeus emeraldus pairing! 🎉

Idk how these procreate in the wild. 😂 I had to practically put his cork tube inside her enclosure and tickle him out. Then I had to poke his toes again because he froze on the door for 35 minutes. As soon as she realized he was there though, she started tapping and dancing. Whole thing took 25 minutes maybe. (And several previous attempts at letting them figure it out on their own. 🤦🏻😅)

Success! And he didn’t get snacked on. I don’t think Psalmopoeus is very prone to that anyway. Idk. Dottie’s a total sweetie though. 🥰💚
Everybody got some roachies to munch on afterwards too.

(The music made me giggle. I was back at the club for moment there. 😄🥰🕷️🕸️🖤)

Heterothele villosella slings! 🖤
Seven, in total. Managed to get eyes on all 7 and they all seem to be doing well. Eating, molting, and webbing.

Granted, some of the photos are just toes, and impossible to spot, blurry toes, at that. Unless you saw them move into place like I did. 😂 Or just blurry as hell in general.
Honestly, the camera on the iPhone17pro sucks for macro. And I mean SUCKS. It’s entirely geared towards landscapes and other distance shots/video. The closeup capabilities are absolute garbage. 🤨😮‍💨 The camera has to be a full 3-4” FURTHER away from the subject than the 13 did, and the macro lens is trash. Blasted out AND grainy because of the light? Make it make sense. 🤦🏻 At least the 13’s macro lens let some light in without washing out all the highlights. Sigh.

Anyway.

That last video… kiddo looked a little shiny. 😬 I didn’t see a shed molt though so, I didn’t realize [she]’d even molted. They’re all over the place, size wise. A couple were barely 1/8” on arrival, and the largest ones were 1/4” or a little over. It’s been hard to gauge when molts would happen. 🤷🏻🤞🏻 (Apparently all this past week. 😂)

OMG I nearly forgot! Avicularia minatrix baby! 🥰🥹
🕸️🕷️ Paw wash time. 💕🕷️🕸️
Since Marlon hooked out, and finding a gf could be… 😳😮‍💨🤦🏻 I picked up this cutie from 8 Hairy Legz on Sunday too. Just molted, probably also on Sunday from what I could tell.
Crazy how much these have gone up! So massively grateful that Matt & Dana are still so reasonable! 🧡

Really looking forward to watching this one grow. Already seems more temperamentally stable than my sweet little desperado, Marlon. 😂🥰 (Fastest legs in the Northeast. 😂🏎️💨 Little dude heads for the next county, every time! He doesn’t simply run, or even teleport, he just KNOWS exactly where and when to run to get out, past me, and up the wall. 😅

Bonnetine minax, sub-adult ♂, Zolin. 🥰💙
Baby boy’s ship date to @unapologeticexotics is set!

Feeding video! 🪳 (Crushed for safety and humane reasons, as usual.) The dubia looks big, but he’s mostly wings. Nice meal the week before his big trip.

Bittersweet, as always. 🥹🥰 There’s a potential girlfriend waiting for him after he completes his ultimate molt. 🫶🏻🤞🏻

Such an underrated species and genus in general. IMHO.
The minax has beautiful colors, similar to GBB, slings/juvies/females web up a bit like GBB, and they’re sweet, much like Brachypelma or Aphonopelma. They’re also not too small or too big, grow faster than Brachy and Aphonopelma, and idk, mine have never kicked hairs. 💙🥰 (The enclosure is 12x8x8 inches.)

I absolutely adore these spiders. 😊💕🖤🕷️🕸️

Ezzy, Stromatopelma calceatum. 🥰
The Gravity Falls theme feels fitting. It’s still a little surreal having this kiddo.

I was so profoundly put off this species after reading bite reports. 😂 (I don’t do that anymore. There are better ways of getting the same info without the drama or fear mongering.) I wasn’t sure I’d ever keep one.

Overcoming fears has been a huge theme for my life the past few years. So, I let my good friend Petra talk me into a sling. She was very convincing. 🤭

Me and Ezzy are getting better acquainted and more comfortable with each other. [She]’s so cute! 😊😄🥰🕷️🖤🕸️

Apparently I haven’t shared this little one yet. I think. 🤔😅 Chilobrachys sp Saraburi, CS2, ♀, ~1.25”. 🥰 This is the one I got from Michelle, who seems to be good luck when it comes to female tarantulas. 😂

Chilobrachys is one of my favorite terrestrial genera. Such big personalities. Lots of webbing. Shy, but not usually overly sensitive (defensive), at least in my experience. 🥰 My Kaeng Krachan was a male, but without really trying, I ended up with huahini, fimbriatus, and sp. saraburi, thanks to my amazing friends.

Definitely an often underrated genus of tarantulas.

Heterscodra maculata. 🥰😍🤩 About 5/8”, maybe 3/4”.
Wishlist spider for idk how long. This species got sort of pinned to my “Too Advanced for Me,” list and both never made it off that list, and never seemed to show up anywhere easily accessible. Or at least never hit my radar if they were available because, well… see above. 😂
And suddenly I had the ONE tarantula I wasn’t sure I’d ever keep, S. calceatum, thanks to a good friend, and still no H. mac in sight. 🤷🏻😂

Guess things aligned at the October expo today (er, technically yesterday, now). 😄🥰

(I’ll tag them on FB) 8 Hairy Legz! Little one’s alive and kicking! I figured this little one would venture out after dark. Sure enough, here “she” is. Turns out she’s got a little burrow directly below the water dish in the substrate. 👍🏻🕸️🕷️🖤
(We couldn’t find her, but rather than risk an escape at a busy expo trying to dig her up… 🤷🏻 Wait and see. Matt had me worried for a sec that the baby might not have made it after her last molt or something. 😅)

Wow. I think I’ve officially got all my (non-Cyriocosmus) first-love, black & white tarantulas now. 😯🥹
Well, sort of. But a bunch of people have been passing around the P. vittata boys I raised so I’m sure eventually I’ll get to keep a female vittata. 😂 We’ll see whether the H. mac and S. calc are boys or girls in time. 🥰🕸️🕷️🖤

Seeing this baby out totally made my night. 🥰

Rehoused my widows. Checked on other babies.
Mostly caught up, finally. A few MM rehousings I’d still like to get done.
I don’t plan to offer Keh (T. rasti) for pairing, so I want to give him a nicer home. His current one is overgrown, webbed so much I can barely open it, and he looks cramped. He’s also been completely insane since he got over 3”, skittish and defensive as hell, so I haven’t wanted to stress him out.
Then he when he was due for his ultimate molt, he turned his enclosure into a ball of webbing with a tiny pocket near the door. Insane spider that’s in pre-molt?… I’ll wait. 😂 But it’s time. He matured recently and finally ate his first adult meal this week. He needs a fresh enclosure, stat!

Updated list of boys. 🕸️🕷️🕸️

Marlon, the A. minatrix FINALLY matured! 🥳😂

And that P. langenbucheri… I’m starting to get worried this is going to be the Tambopatas all over again. 💔
I really don’t want to do outright with him. It seems like a pretty big risk that I may never find them again. 🤷🏻
And as usual, the US Hobby has them jacked up. UK listings are for a fraction of what they go for here. Literally like 10% of what they’re listed at in the US. And they have to import them across an ocean. 😳 I don’t really get it.
Maybe not enough people want dwarf species here, so nobody’s willing to breed them, so they’re considered rare?
Idk.
I might even consider a reverse breeding borrow situation. 🤷🏻😂

Downsizing the Spider Corner a bit! 🕸️🕷️🎃
(Pennsylvania, near Pittsburgh, US)

🚨 Drop me a message for inquiries. Please don’t ask in the comments. 😅 These platforms don’t always alert for every single comment, so I may never see it. Especially if it’s FB. Plus, regs. I’m just offering advice for these kiddos. So to speak. So, take a hint and drop me a direct line, yeah? 😂🫶🏻🖤

A few notes:
A. germani (Kuwa) pairing wasn’t successful imo. However, there’s always still a at least a slim chance that I just missed it and she *could* potentially drop a fertile sac. Highly doubt it though.

P. langenbucheri MM… I’d REALLY like at few slings out of that one. Right now, I’m not really worried about splitting for a full 50/50. However, I’d just really rather not have a repeat of the Cyriocosmus sp Tambopatas that passed away without a successful sac, or the C. giganteus that I’ve heard nothing from the guy he was sent to, one way or the other about. 😅🤷🏻😔 I’m very bummed because finding either of those can be pretty damn difficult. I still haven’t seen so much as Tambopata slings available for a long time. So, yeah. Dwarf Psalmo? Pretty much my three favorite spiders in one package!? Dwarf AND arboreal AND a Psalmopoeus! Seriously. Do I have to beg? 😂🫣😅

The P. vittata is my giant boy, Ravi, back home! He’s made some rounds, and met some lady friends, and apparently slowed down a little, but he’s still eating and active. 🥰

Oh, and the T. plumipes slings are starting to get close to another molt, so those may be temporarily on hold starting in the next maybe 1-2 weeks probably.

Lastly… A friend is helping with this, so nothing is guaranteed until I confer with her and THEN confirm with you. 🫶🏻🖤🕷️🕸️

Think Ezzy needed an upgrade? 🤭😅 Yikes. Well, [she] got one. (Stromatopelma calceatum)

“Amok, amok, amok, amok!” 😂
She didn’t bolt or anything. I put the old enclosure into the new one hoping she’d just come out and stretch those little legs, but she tried to keep living in the old one instead. Upside down. 😳🫣
I hate trying to get nervous slings… well, ANY slings… out of dram vials and Sling Cribs and into their upgrades when they’ve outgrown them this much.
Psalmopoeus is pretty much the only exception. Everybody else wants to stay in the damn things until they don’t have room to turn around in them and then freak out when I try to give them more space.

Normally, I would have moved Ezzy over to a 3x3x5 way before this size, but the sneaky little goober molted again without telling me. 😂🤭

So…
“Okay, okay, you’re gonna make me actually rehouse you.” 😅

Gently removed the moss, the sticks, and the leaf. Still no spider. 🤨
“Where did you go?” 😳

I started pulling debris off the bottom of the new house and suddenly, a little, yellow ball of fur dropped onto my tongs and scared the fluff out of me before scurrying into the cork hide like a tumbling dust bunny in a strong breeze.
Nearly gave me a heart attack. 😂 It was hilarious. 🤣

I checked a molt, but it was tiny, so I’m not sure. And the sneaky molt was missing the abdomen entirely. Have to wait for the next one. I can’t help suspecting that “she’s” actually a HE, but hey, I thought my super fast-growing C. elegans was probably male and she’s not! 🤷🏻😄

Anyway. Little one is all settled in, has started webbing and digging, and took a good-sized dubia nymph tonight. 🥰🥳
I went ahead and gave her a 4x4x8 TC Switch and just skipped the in-between size. If she keeps growing this fast, she’ll grow into it in a flash. Plus, skittish spiders known for being defensive tend to do a WHOLE lot better with more space than their calmer cousins. 💛

I’m so glad I didn’t cut up that piece of cork bark for another spider the other day, too. She is loving the ground-level, balcony entrance right now. 😄🥰🖤🕸️🕷️
(Edit: I DID clean the water dish, btw.)
