A visit to see my grandson turned into an unexpectedly demanding week of work when your daughter asked for help repairing water lines, the fence, and digging a trench for an electric line. After the hurricane and the devastation left behind, it’s important to find a little time to do something you love—to relieve the stress, clear your mind, and begin to heal.

There’s something about being on the water that helps clear the soul, quiet the mind, and heal the heart. After the storm and clean up, I’m grateful to be back in the ocean—finding peace, strength, and a renewed appreciation for the beautiful place we call home.

NEW NUKUMOI LIFEGUARD TOWER – POʻIPŪ BEACH 🌊

We’re proud to introduce our new Nukumoi Lifeguard Tower at Poʻipū Beach, strengthening our ability to better serve and watch over the safety of our community and visitors.

This new tower provides our lifeguards with improved visibility and coverage of the surrounding ocean and beach area, helping us respond quickly when every second counts.

Our mission remains the same — protecting lives, preventing drownings, and keeping our beaches and community safe.

Mahalo to everyone who helped make this important addition to Poʻipū Beach possible.

After the storm, we rebuild. 🌊

Ocean Safety Bureau Lifeguards putting up a new tower at Poipu, getting back in position to do what they do every day 💪🏾 protect our community and everyone who comes to enjoy our beaches.

A hurricane may leave its mark, but it also shows the strength of our people. We clean up. We rebuild. We show up for each other. And we keep moving forward.

Water clarity at Poʻipū and Lydgate Beaches has improved and is currently clear enough for swimming.

A huge MAHALO to my Ocean Safety staff for your dedication, teamwork, and continued efforts in getting our operations back to somewhat normal following the recent storm.

From assessing damage and cleaning up our lifeguard towers and facilities, to getting equipment and operations back online, everyone has stepped up when it mattered most.

I truly appreciate your flexibility, patience, and commitment—not only to each other, but to the safety of our community and everyone who enjoys Kauaʻi’s beaches.

There is still work ahead, but I’m proud of the way our team continues to come together and move forward.
