ABOUT ME | KALEB KEEBLER

My name is Kaleb Keebler, and I’m a Music Education major at The University Of Alabama (Roll Tide!🐘)with a passion for leadership, percussion, and building strong music communities. I’ve spent over six years in band, serving as a three-year student leader and the Drumline Section Leader at Pinson Valley High School, where I helped lead our program to multiple superior ratings and consistent growth.

I’m a percussionist, educator, and creator at heart. As an African American percussionist, I take pride in representing my community in a field where our voices, traditions, and rhythmic history have shaped modern music. I strive to carry that legacy forward through excellence, leadership, and lifting up younger musicians who look like me.

I founded Echo Percussion and performed with groups like North Jefferson Indoor Drumline and PVD ’21–’24. Teaching and inspiring the next generation motivates me—whether I’m working the front ensemble, running rehearsals, shaping technique, or guiding younger players to reach their potential.

I’m also preparing for future performance opportunities, exploring leadership tracks like drum major training, and continuing to grow as both a player and educator. My motto is “Do what excites,” and I live it every day by pushing myself, uplifting others, and staying committed to excellence.

I’m a twin, a proud African American percussionist, and someone who believes in justice, community, and showing up fully for the people around me. Music has changed my life—and my goal is to pass that impact on. taken in Birmingham Ala. by @kaleb.drums1

Feeling Better
by Ivan Trevino

After a long time, I’m finally able to share a revised version of me playing Feeling Better by @ivan.drums This piece has carried me through high school and through so many personal milestones—including my very first solo performance at the UAB Percussion Symposium.

Ever since I first heard this work as a freshman, I’ve been in love with it. Four years later, I’m still in awe of how beautifully it’s written and how much it continues to mean to me.

Let this be a reminder: never give up, keep growing, and trust the process.

From me to you★

Words of wisdom!!! Don’t look down on HBCU-style drumming just because it’s different from what you’re used to playing. Not every style of drumming is supposed to sound or feel the same. One of the biggest problems in the percussion community is when some core-style players act like their way of playing is the standard for everybody else. Just because something doesn’t follow the techniques or sound you’re used to doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

HBCU-style drumming has its own history, culture, vocabulary, and identity. It takes skill, discipline, musicality, and years of work to do it well. You can prefer DCI-style drumming without disrespecting another tradition. There’s a difference between offering constructive criticism and looking down on something because you don’t understand it.

At the end of the day, percussion is bigger than one circuit, one technique, or one style. Learn to appreciate the differences instead of trying to make everything fit your standard. You don’t have to play it to respect it. taken in The University of Alabama by @kaleb.drums1

Attention Music Educators:
I’m currently a first-year Music Education student looking for opportunities to grow, learn, and contribute this summer. I’d love the chance to work with programs as a tech and bring energy, dedication, and a willingness to learn into your ensemble.

If you’re looking for someone who’s ready to pour into your program while building experience, I’d appreciate the opportunity to connect.

Contact me today—let’s build something great this summer. taken in Birmingham Ala. by @kaleb.drums1

This is a piece I arranged for the senior group at Pinson. This song carries a special meaning for me, especially the lyric, “Because I knew you, I have been changed for good.”

Over the last four years, we’ve had the privilege of watching each other grow—not only as musicians, but as people. Through rehearsals, performances, competitions, long days, and unforgettable memories, we’ve all left a lasting impact on one another.

This arrangement is my way of reflecting on that journey and celebrating the friendships, lessons, and experiences we’ve shared along the way.

I hope you enjoy this audio score of For Good from Wicked, arranged by me.

My goal to become more well-rounded this year is really starting to take shape. I’ve been putting in more time on drum set (drum set pros, don’t roast me), but I just want to make sure I’m not intimidated by any percussion instrument I step in front of. The next step for me is continuing to explore each instrument more and making sure my technique is as clean and refined as possible. by @kaleb.drums1

I’m so proud of myself and the work I’ve put in to get to this moment. I’m beyond excited to be a part of the School of Music at the University of Alabama and to grow alongside some of the best musicians in the state.

Thank you to @lynge_perc for seeing me and recognizing the value I can bring to the Studio.

And a huge thank you to all of my teachers and instructors who have poured into me over the years your lessons, time, and belief in me have helped shape me into the player I am today. ❤️
