In January, I was privileged to experience the JACL #KakehashiProject sponsored by @jice_exchange with 70+ other Japanese American young adults from all different walks of life.🎌 I would love to answer any questions or share my story with anyone who is interested.🥹🤭

i never felt like i was japanese.. however, i have always been a proud 4th generation japanese american. from this trip, my earnest goal was to form connections with this ancestral motherland that felt so foreign to me. not only do i now feel like there are people waiting for me to return to japan (my wonderful homestay parents🥹), i was able to see with my own eyes government records of my great grandpa being sent to work in hawaii when he was only 18.😮 bonding with my cohort was better than i could have ever imagined and ive never been so sure how big yet small our world really is.🌎 i could ramble on and on about my homestay; like finally putting my 13 years of japanese language education to use or singing for japanese television or traveling the beautiful countryside island of suo-oshima, but i won’t, so please ask me anything!🍊 if group c reads this, i miss you guys😭 #kakehashi2024 taken in Suō-Ōshima by @kali.ayumi
